The promise of eternal life is not different than that of Abraham and him being judged righteous due to his obedience in which the promises of God became a reality! To coming into covenant and staying in covenan are two different things. Jesus was very clear about our status with him is based on our response to him and his law just like Abraham. Which is a faith by works reality!
THe work of Christ is realized when you walk as he walked by the leading of his Spirit and fulfill his will/law!

Wow wonder if you were in Paul's mind when he said "having begun in the Spirit are you now made perfect by the flesh."
Salvation is complete in Jesus Christ. There is nothing I can do to ad to what he has done. My response to his salvation makes me want to walk close to him but that doesn't save me.
