Now, I'm no fan of Nimrod, but could you help me out? Just where does the Bible tell us that "Satan" was behind the building of the Tower of Babel? (See Genesis 11:3-6).

As far as disagreeing that the Bible fortells an evil one world government we will have to simply agree to disagree and time will tell for sure :-)
No we don't! You've said that the Bible tells us NOW that "an evil one world government is prophesied." Show me NOW!

I also appreciate your calm demeanor bro, in the past I have seen some elsewhere who disagree who are not able to disagree without making a big emotional tirade about it being far out conspiracy nut stuff. (of course the conspirers count on many people scoffing at this stuff :-)

As far as so called "tin-foil-hat" things, just remember that most of the world likely thought that way about Noah when he was building an ark when it had never even rained before :-)
uhm... yeah. (See NotForSale's "Noah and the Ark" thread).

My take is that folks have seen the attempts at political consolidation since the time of WW1 and have tried to force these political movements into what the Bible has to say. This followed a new pattern of Bible interpretation that was developing in the previous century. The horrors of a World War, made possible by the new technology of the industrial revolution had a tremendous impact upon the minds of the people in the West. This coincided with the rise of fundamentalism in America and the two became intertwined along with the newfangled Dispensational method of Bible interpretation.

This whole program of trying to force current events into the Bible's prophecies was first developed by the Millerites (Seventh Day Adventists) and the Jehovah Witnesses. Trailing along behind them came the Darbyists who had founded Dispensationalism in the first place as an adjutant to the new enthusiasm for Bible literalism that was brought on by the Enlightenment. The Niagara Bible Conferences worked out just how to make all of this palatable for American mass consumption.

But throughout most of church history, believers actually looked with anticipation upon the idea of a one world ruler who would do away with the evils of war, poverty and the other ailments of mankind (See Psalm 2:7-12; Revelation 2:25-29; Revelation 12:5; Revelation 19:15).
