I have seen sheltering backfire. I'm not sure what other factors are involved.
Often, kids totally protected from "the world" can't handle it when they get their first job after high school....AND they hear swearing; hear discussions about "worldy" entertainment etc ----and with NO preparation for such flounder.
I know of 18 yr old girls receiving their first male attention and the next thing you know...pregnant.
Obviously you must gear information to your household and comfort level but total isolation is not good.
