Re: Black Apostolic Hair blog touts Stoneking and
In the Cincinnati area where I live there are several Apostolic or OP churches. Some are "black" and some are "white." I'm not saying that to be racist but that's just the way they are. I have been in several of the "black" churches and preached in 3 (I think) of them (one PAW, one CoJCPF and one independent). This was back in the nineteen fifties, sixties, and seventies so I don't have experience with those churches now in 2010. I did preach in a white Apostolic Church back in August but that was the first time I've preached in an Apostolic church for many years.
What I noticed in the black and white churches was this.
The men in black churches had facial hair and "Afro" hair styles.
The women in black churches had short hair and some wore jewelry (ear rings, etc.)
Men in some white churches had facial hair.
Women in white churches kept their hair long enough to fix it into some kind of a "Pentecostal" style but short enough to manage.
It has been my observation that hair length was not an issue in black Apostolic Churches or with African American women visiting or attending white Apostolic Churches.
