Siberian 7 Make Appearance on Reagan Documentary

On PBS tonight on the American Experience documentary on Reagan the Siberian 7 made an appearance. The documentary said that Reagan's first deal made with the Soviets was over Pentecostals who had been living in the basement of the US Embassy in Moscow for seven years. Reagan asked the Kremlin to release them and allow them to relocate to the USA. The Soviets agreed to release them as long as Reagan wouldn't "crow" about it. Reagan agreed. The Pentecostals were released and Reagan kept his word. It sent the message to the Soviets that Reagan was a fair person to deal with.

I just bought the Reagan diaries on iBooks last night and haven't started it yet. I'll search on that at lunch and post if he recorded anything on it.

Re: Siberian 7 Make Appearance on Reagan Documenta

There's a lot more to the story of the Siberian Seven. My late father and I followed this story back then. Many prayers went up for these people. Heard some of their testimonies in person. Others on tape.

Bro. N.A. Urshan and others, went to Russia and visited these people. It is easy to say of the late Bro. Urshan, that "he crowed a bit" and took credit for their release. I believe Bro. Urshan knew and gave credit to GOD for the release of the Siberian Seven. I personally heard a Christian Radio talk show host in Dallas give credit to some of his friends in high places. It might be interesting the things God would do if men didn't want to take the credit. I don't believe for one moment that Bro. Urshan took the credit.

I believe the same GOD that delivered the children of Israel out of Egyptian bondage, set these people free.
God used a man to lead them out too! I guess you could say Moses "crowed a bit" too. God always used a man to deliver HIS people. But the GOD in/with that man did/does the work. GOD chooses those HE will use to do the job. Jesus chose his disciples too! He told them they didn't choose him, but he chose them. I'm sure Jesus got his instructions from his Father! He only said and did what his Father told him to do and say!

Wicked Haman was hung on the gallows he had prepared for someone else. When mankind exalts themselves, GOD has a way of bringing them down. We all need to humble ourselves under the Hand of THE ALMIGHTY! I, for one would fear to lift up my voice against good men GOD uses. The fear of the LORD is still the beginning of wisdom, and of knowledge and understanding!

I wonder if the words concerning Bro. Urshan would be listed under the fruit
of the Spirit, (love, joy, peace, etc.) or would they better fit under the works of the flesh as listed in Galatians 5:19-24.

These words are not for offense!

Amen! I am sick of people so quickly finding something to complain about when a work for God has been done. It's not only on this forum, but in "the church" in general. None of us can know the details concerning every situation, nor the intent of those involved. I suspect it would please God if we could lay aside our fault-finding and suspicious natures, and instead spend our time encouraging people, praying for each other, and looking carefully at those we pass on the street who one day in the near future will stand in judgment before God. Our focus just might change.

I don't remember much about the "Siberian 7."

Weren't they Apostolics who believed in the trinity, salvation without water baptism and Spirit baptism, and did not practice clothesline holiness? In other words, weren't they "Apostolic" according to the older definition of the early 1900's?

Re: Siberian 7 Make Appearance on Reagan Documenta

I looked it up in the Reagan Diaries on my ipad, unfortunately Apples obsessive disorder with digital rights management didn't allow a copy paste.

There is a paragraph in a lengthy letter recorded in a diary entry for April 23 1981 addressed to Leonid Brezhnev where Reagan does ask for their freedom with the assurance that American Pentecostal Christians would see that the two families were provided for, along with Reagan's guarantee of discretion in the matter.

I wish we could have Ronnie back. Really Really...
