Re: Indiana High School's Purse Ban

My daughter has never been allowed to carry her purse. They are also not allowed to carry their backpacks around the school. When they get there, it goes in the locker until school is over.

In addition, the school district they are in now doesn't allow cell phones on campus AT ALL. If they bring it, they have to leave it at the school office and pick it up after school.

I think it's a good idea, even if it's inconvenient.

Many schools ban purses .... don't know what's the biggie ...

My kids can't carry their backpacks throughout the day for safety issues ...

Other schools require kids to purchase transparent backpacks from the school store.

This is taking it too far. Having lived around a bunch of girls, I would defend their right to carry a purse. There are just some things they need that would embarrass them if carried in a clear bag.
It has been said our freedoms are becoming our prisons.

Happy Town must be from California, loves Obama and hates rules!! I'm sure the school has a reason for the purse ban.

Re: Indiana High School's Purse Ban

Ok having lived near almost every type of school there is I have to say I agree with this... even from a very young age... My kid was attacked with a knife by a 4th grader in florida so nothing surprises me anymore.

As for what George said... the schools that have these rules also make provision for what you are referring... my girls schools have a school counselor who is always in her office and if she is not she has an office aide.. you carry a small like makeup bag with those personal items in them.. take it to her at that time of the month and then she puts your name on it and you are free to go there at any time and get that bag and she even has a restroom in her office or you are free to use the nurses office.

Our schools have always had clear backpacks and no purse rule since columbine happened and some say thats too far.... the morning after columbine my sons elementary school was featured on CNN because 8 elementary school kids broke in in the night and painted death threats on the walls in red paint to look like blood... and they even found bomb devices... some with detinators and some without but the fact is it happens and I think taking no precautions is plum stupid and I do not know of a single school that allows backpacks to be toted around and purses are coming to an end in most now too and I for one am thankful...

Now yes I do have 2 in private school now.. but I still have 2 in the masses of this world and their schools and I am glad they are there but I also want them to be safe
