Unable to respond to the Fellowship Hall's WPF Fireball thread, as per Admin so I will do so here ...

It appears that Paul B and his yellow journalistic phantom staff have decided to make the bolide meteor sighting seen over the South Eastern United States on the night of January 11th into an epic "Azusa" style event in which a God responded to the holiness preaching at a Baton Rouge country church ... Socialite has been ahead of this story ... before AN got to twisting, distorting and manipulating its readership.

BATON ROUGE – January 28, 2011. At the recent Vertical Conference hosted in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, it was reported by a number of people that a “ball of fire” had went down behind the church. ABC reported the incident as a “flash of light.” Rev. Tony Spell noticed that just after Rev. Johnny King finished preaching, that there were many officers outside with flashlights.

One of the deputies motioned to him to come outside. He told him that they were dispatched to the site after several people in the vicinity of the church noticed the ball of fire.

The deputy sheriff, who was a former member of the church, said that they had searched the whole area and could not find what they suspected to be a meteorite. He then stated, “It must have been another Azusa Street happening. It’s about time for me to come home.” The next Sunday he was in church.

This despite the wealth of data and news report that states this was seen in various southeaster states such as Arkansas, Louisiana, Alabama, Mississippi, Florida ... among others.

The article stated that the American Meteor Society somehow rejected the notion that this was a meteor:

The following day after the fireball sighting, the American Meteor Society showed up looking for the the supposed meteorite. After searching for two days, they finally gave up and concluded it was not a meteor.

This despite the multitude of reports, not specific to Baton Rouge, made concerning the 1/11 southeastern bolide on the American Meteor Society here:

Or the fact that the AMS simply builds a database of reports for scientific study or that NASA and others scientific agencies worldwide have confirmed this bolide siting ...

NASA Huntsville has confirmed that the bolide which exploded over Mississippi on Jan 11, 2011 is a "meter class" object yielding an explosive equivilent of roughly 80 tons of TNT and weighing over a metric ton at detonation. Original estimates put the object's size at 21 inches diameter and weighing 171 kilograms. In an ELPALLSKY interview with the Director of NASA's Meteoroid Environment Office in Huntsville AL, Dr. Bill Cooke, at 16:45 MST 01/13/11, Cooke says "the meteor exploded at a high altitude and likely scattered fragments over a large area". Cooke also said "infrasound signatures from the event place the debris fall zone over Jackson Mississippi". This coincides with the original thinking of Dirk Ross Worldwide Meteor/Meteorite News of Tokyo, Japan who theorized Jackson as the potential fall zone just after the event time of 20:45 CST on 1/11/11

On the night of Tuesday, Jan. 11, an extremely bright fireball meteor streaked over Jackson, Miss., and was visible across several southern states. NASA astronomer Bill Cooke of the Meteoroid Environment Office at Marshall Space Flight Center confirms the meteor below.

Okay folks, can confirm that this was indeed a fireball or bolide. Unfortunately no video of the actual meteor has surfaced, so I requested an analysis of signals from North American infrasound stations. We had one very clear detection, from the ELFO station in Canada, and a marginal signal at another station east of the visual sightings. Unfortunately the marginal signal is too weak to permit extraction of much information or to triangulate.

The ELFO signal arrived at 10:05:50 PM Central time, some 1 hour and 20 minutes after the event, and came in at an azimuth of 210 degrees. If you look at the attached plot, the black curved line shows the path of the ELFO signal, which intersects nicely with the bulk of the visual observations -- indicated by the red dot -- around Jackson, Mississippi (ELFO az gives 32 deg N, 89 deg W -- Jackson is at 32 deg N, 90 deg W).

Rev. Tony Spell, the pastor of the church, talked to every eye witness of the happening and they all described the same event. Rev. Spell stated, “Every message in the conference was geared toward truth and holiness. The motto of the conference was “Transferring Truth to the Next Generation.” I believe God was just putting his stamp of approval on the conference!”

Pulling these type of hooey tactics may have worked for centuries - maybe even 50 years but do these demagogues think this will stand the truth test during the information digital age?

Rather than black listing sites and forums on their blogs and mid-week sermons, why not speak truth?

I agree. Just like I said in my previous post. This isn't new in the least.

But I don't think they initial statement was an actual attempt to fool people. They probably thought exactly what they were saying.

But... now that info is known they need to fix it. But overtly accusatory and ridiculing threads don't help anyone's cause.

It would be best to present a thread showing all the data and then respectfully call for a recanting of what they said. There is a lot to be said for tact, technique and brotherly respect.

And... before you say what "they" did or would do... we are to do unto others as we would HAVE them do unto us. I'm not trying to give you a hard time about this. But man... you just come out swinging don't you?
