Her name is Mercedes

Her name is Mercedes. She was very new to this world when her mother realized that she wouldn't cry or respond to noise. In concern her mother took her to the doctor to see what was going on. The doctor said that Mercedes was deaf and that she would never be able to speak.

Family members loudly banged on pots and pans near Mercedes' ears to see if she would respond. Their efforts were not rewarded.

Mercedes' uncle was a christian of the pentecostal variety. I do not know how much time passed before her mother decided to take baby Mercedes to the church for prayer. I can't imagine that she waited very long.

Mercedes was prayed over by the ministry of the church. Her ears were unstopped. When baby Mercedes heard the loud prayers as they cried out to Jesus to heal her, baby Mercedes began to cry. Her tongue was loosed. She was healed.

This is the Jesus that we serve. Be encouraged today.

Great testimony!

I wonder where Mercedes is today and if she knows that she is a living miracle?

Re: Her name is Mercedes

thank God for stories like this.

Sunday we will be going to a birthday party for our grand daughter Taylor. She is now 16. She is an answer to prayer.

When she was a baby my wife became quite concerned about her. She cried a lot, seemed to be in pain a lot. When Pat would hold her and try to lift her by her hands she would not straighten her legs and try to stand. Many, many test were done, even bone marrow testing. She was diagnosed with DBF Anemia, Diamond Black Fan Anemia, a rare and incurable disease. We were told that she might live into the second decade of her life. We prayed. Lots of folks prayed. She seemed to get better. She grew and developed and began to crawl and walk. It was great when grandma (my wife Pat) took her for a walk down their short (one block) street. She refused to let grandma hold her hand and just walked by herself. A couple of the neighbors stood in their doors and watched. It was a real answer to prayer.

Over 5 years ago she was declared to be "in remission." About a year ago she went through more tests. Now the folks at Children's Hospital in Cincinnati think she may have been misdiagnosed. We consider it an answer to prayer.

Re: Her name is Mercedes

Great stories!

Houston's story reminded me of an experience a missionary shared with us.

He was trying to preach while standing on a platform with the men's and ladies restrooms on opposite sides of the back wall behind the podium. People kept getting up and down to use them.

With that going on, a man in the street kept honking his horn and yelling, "Oranges for sale!!"

The Missionary finally stopped and asked the congregation if anyone wanted to buy any oranges.

Finally bringing his message to a close, he was prepared to leave when a woman came up to the platform with a child who was lame. She asked if he would pray. He, being, discouraged by the service, gave a simple prayer.

The woman set the child down and she began to walk across the front of the church! He was astounded!

Awesome story he shared with us, and the larger lesson is that even when everything around us is not working, God is still in control.
