I agree with Prax. It sounds like your media not the camera is "locked" and "write protected". If this camera uses a SD card they usually have a little sliding lock on them with one direction being "unlocked" (where you can continue to use the card or to erase it) and "locked" that keeps any changes from being made including adding more pictures or erasing the card. Check that and report back!
