The Forbidden Smurfs!

"Those little blue people are of the devil!"

So did anyone else grow up with or hear about others who were forbidden to watch the Smurfs when they were children?

If you're an adult, do you allow the Smurfs to come on your tv now?

Would you allow your children to watch the Smurfs today?

Re: The Forbidden Smurfs!

I grew up hearing that, but that didn't stop me from watching them at my grandparents. Our kids have watched the first movie. About a hour of their lives they will never get back. I also heard Care Bears were bad & Amy Grant was a white witch (whatever that is) & a whole bunch of other things. How many people were ran off because people were busy adding to & taking away from the Bible. As I grow older I become more & more disenchanted with a lot of stuff we were taught as kids. I think that's a good thing. As I grow older I'm more concerned about what the Word of God says & less interested in what people say. I hope we are raising our children that way as well. If you don't have a relationship with Jesus, you totally miss the boat. That is what I've learned.

Re: The Forbidden Smurfs!

I did not have a tv growing up.
Have never had one in my home and never will.
Raised up two boys that are great men and working on the last one, now.
And yes I do have wi-fi and internet.
I do not believe there is anything wrong with the "medium" of tv, just too much outside influence is available on it.

Re: The Forbidden Smurfs!

I have no understanding of this version of OPism you people were exposed to.

I am a fifth gen Pentecostal. My great grandmother was an OP preacher.

all this control stuff. all this crazy "everything is the devil" stuff...

I just never (thank God) experienced it.

You see that's the problem. The version of OP you were exposed to was different than ours. Our version would have condemned your great grandmother for being a woman preacher.

So obviously that form avoided your great grandmother and she avoided them. Thus explaining how you never experienced any of that.

that may very well be correct.
I just know I stand on the shoulders of some great men and women of God that walked this path before me.

I honor them and am thankful to God for teaching me bible above culture and doctrine above rules.

I am sorry that you were exposed to things that make no sense. and that those things have clouded your view and understanding of scripture.

Re: The Forbidden Smurfs!

I "heard" that version.
However, my parents and pastor did not buy into it.
I still remember one woman testifying about how the devil made her son fall off his bike and break his arm.
People can get out there.
