HOLY ROLLERS - Why I can't be one.

I understand the Apostolic Motorcycle Association is called the Holy Rollers.

There are 20,000 plus (possibly as many as 40,000) bikers in town at the Lake of the Ozarks this weekend. http://www.lakeoftheozarksbikefest.com/index.html

I was sort of excited to check them out, but soon realized our interests are very different.

Reasons why I can't be a Holy Roller
1. There was not one motorcycle at my daily stop at the espresso bar. Guess they don't do lattes.

2. Three film crews are in town from "Girls Gone Wild".

3. The World Famous Clydesdales look good in the parade... but just how much beer is sold to pay that motorcade of semi trucks?

4. All the main events are held at restaurants and bars with names like the Horney Toad and about three others I won't even list.

5. Most events are located near Party Cove where law enforcement is constantly dealing with nudity. http://www.lakesunleader.com/article...15/news/02.txt

6. I just can't see my wife havin a "I Love Jesus" tatoo on her shoulder.

7. Cowpies in the barn make being a Holy Roller too messy (courtesy Prax)

How do the Holy Rollers (or other Christian Motorcycle Clubs) deal with this stuff at biker events? I don't know how many Holy Rollers are attending this week, but I do know the Christian Motorcycle Association is here... I find this puzzling.

DISCLAIMER: I "saw" these things taking place while driving and working this weekend, I did not actually attend the events themselves.

Apostolic is defined on AFF as:

  1. There is One God. This one God reveals Himself distinctly as Father, Son and Holy Ghost.
  2. The Son is God himself in a human form or "God manifested in the flesh" (1Tim 3:16)
  3. Every sinner must repent of their sins.
  4. That Jesus name baptism is the only biblical mode of water baptism.
  5. That the Holy Ghost is for today and is received by faith with the initial evidence of speaking in tongues.
  6. The saint will go on to strive to live a holy life, pleasing to God.

Mr. Eureka,

I am a motorcyle rider but I have never been to one of the major motorcycle events. The only one I am interested in is the Honda Hoot that is the huge annual Honda owners event in Knoxville, TN.

However if I did go I am sure there are plenty of events that do not involve the things you mentioned. Most large motorcycle events have lots of vendors with cool motorcycles and motorcycle accessories to check out, etc.

Sturgis is probably the best known motorcycle event each year along with Daytona Beach but because the emphasis of the the drinking, etc I have no desire to go.

I like the events that are more family oriented.

I have friends that live in Sturgis - I guess that is one big blowout.

The traffic jam in front of the Harley dealer indicated them as the choice hot spot this weekend.

The craze for toys seems to go in spurts (cycle did not look right)
It was and still is to some degree Nascar.
It was Urban Cowboy for a while making $13 levis cost $46 and usually fitted too tight for modesty.

The newer crowd is not insane Hells Angels types and are like CC1- Latte drinkers who are investing $30000-$50000 in these machines. Not all are interested in nudity or drugs.
