Hives

Please pray for my son. He has a serious case of hives. I gave him some claritin. I am trying to decide if I should take him in. He also had a fever this morning of 101.6.

Re: Hives

Praying, ILG.

Did he eat something unusual? Or maybe a different soap, laundry soap, shampoo, etc???

The fever is puzzling. How about trying some Benadryl? Our instructions for Keith if he ever gets ahold of peanuts is to give him Benadryl IMMEDIATELY (2 of them!), then give him the Epi pin. Then call 911 and tell them to get Life Flight in the air.

The point is that the Benadryl comes FIRST because it will hopefully buy him a few seconds more before his airway begins to close up.

I also thought the fever was puzzling.

The other night, we had a fire in the fireplace. I had an allergic reaction but it was milder. I usually do have one but wanted to take the risk because a fire is so nice! However, my son has really broken out. It wasn't immediate. Today, I am shampooing carpets and washing pillows etc. My son and daughter bought a bunch of candy and ate a TON of it. I told them to mellow out, but that went in one ear and out the other. I am thinking maybe the combination of the fire and tons of sugar did it. I gave him claritin this morning, but he is still broken out more than he "should" be. My son has only been diagnosed with an allergy to dust mites ( as have I) but we are allergic to more than that.

Thanks, Scott. He still has hives and is now feeling chilly, but has seemed normal for the most part of the day, except for looking terrible.

Re: Hives

I think hives can sometimes be a result of a fever. If he's not having any other problems, I wouldn't worry about it.

Re: Hives

Well, we ended up taking him into see the doc. She sent him down to ER. They put epi in him and benadryl and steroids and whatever else they do. The ER doc said it was not anaphylaxis and I didn't think so, because he's had these hives all day and some yesterday and said he felt fine except for the hives and a bit of a sore throat. But the sore throat was hives in his throat, which can be dangerous. The doc said that what he was having was a severe allergic reaction and the other doc said, yes, it was very possibly the fire we had, maybe a log with mold on it. I am quite sure that's what it was. They took a throat culture for strep and that came back negative. So, we now have an epi-pen just in case of anaphylaxis sometime and he will be taking steroids. Woohoo!!

Anyway, I shampooed everything and washed everything today to make sure any mold is gone and then my cat threw up on my freshly shampooed carpet. Then, we took my son to the doc and ended up in ER. I just had supper after waiting for the prescriptions because they had to call my insurance company. I waited there for an hour. We got some McDonalds and as I was walking towards the table my husband threw up his elbow and I was drenched in water even inside my shirt. Then, we sat down, prayed and the phone rang. My daughter called needing a ride. So, I left my dinner and picked her up and then I ate a cold McDonalds burger a few minutes ago.

LOL! Well, I am glad my son seems to be doing better and now I am relaxing on AFF!
