1. You need to spend enough time with God to where you can maintain a relationship with him but not so much time with him that you are smothered and won't do anything but spend time with him.

2. You need to read the bible enough to get a spiritual perspective on life but not so much that you don't have time left for life and the good things of it. The bible was never intended to be our life but it was intended to be a gift from God that can supplement our life.

3. Preachers are people and we often put them on pedastels to our own detriment. They sometimes make mistakes. They sometimes don't get a message quite right. Some are more prone to this than others. I'll even agree from my experience that the preacher probably didn't get it quite right in that message you are referring to. But what does it change that he didn't get 1 message quite right? And if it's many more than 1 message then what are you going to do, because in that case that really is the only question worth asking?

Corvet,

I wouldn't put a time limit on prayer or Bible reading. Talk to God every day, and not with a timer on just to make sure you meet a "quota." Talk to Him as long as you need to, and it doesn't have to only be once.

Get in the Word in some way on a regular basis. Sometimes that's reading the Bible, but sometimes it can be in a devotional sense. If I spend 45 minutes watching a sermon or an hour with my girls having a Bible study, I consider that to be my Bible study time. "In the Word" isn't always as cut and dried as just sitting down and reading scripture straight through. (Although that's good, too.)

With our kids, we emphasize consistency over quantity. I tell them that it's better to talk to God for 5 minutes every day than to go all week without praying and then pray for an hour on Sunday. I would rather that they make talking to God and studying the Word a regular part of their lives (e.g., a HABIT), than to only focus on it when they go to church.

Personally, I don't time myself--ever. Do you time your conversations with your friends? No, sometimes you might be on the phone for 5 minutes, and other times you might sit down for coffee and talk for hours.

There is no line. When you eat lunch do you have a line or do you eat what your body needs? See? You can not eat enough or you can eat too much.

Im not even sure why you are feeling guilt over something you are finding a problem with.

And it seems that it's not so much the content of the message you are saying you have an issue with but how....CS does rebuke but differently..more caring.

Also how can you feel controlled at a message you heard on the internet or radio? I'm saying this to make you think. I don't feel controlled if I hear a message that disagrees with me. I don't feel not good enough by messages I hear. You aren't even attending the church you heard this message from.

My point is, aside from the message you heard at a church you don't attend and did not like the message, what is it about your relationship with the Lord that makes you feel guilt that easily or controlled?

Is your faith in Him or is it in a quantity of works you feel you need to do but aren't sure what amount? Do you pray because you love the Lord and want to be with him and work in His kingdom or do you pray because you think it's a work requirement to save you?

  3. Every sinner must repent of their sins.
  4. That Jesus name baptism is the only biblical mode of water baptism.
  5. That the Holy Ghost is for today and is received by faith with the initial evidence of speaking in tongues.
