Re: Christmas Gifts

Well, time for another update.

For those of you not yet up-to-speed, on Christmas eve, I asked my older son to throw a baseball 90mph before I would give him his Christmas gifts. So far, no luck. He just can't get it done. Go back and read the original post for more info.

Meanwhile, my son continues to beg for his gifts but rules are rules, you know. I simply will not give him his free gifts until he performs this task. He claims he just doesn't have the ability and that I'm expecting too much. But I just don't think he's serious enough about it.

Today he begged. You should have seen him cry. He was down on his knees at one point, begging and crying. It's tough to see your kid cry like that but I really think that if he gets serious enough, it'll happen. I just think he's not totally devoted yet.

I'll keep you updated.

Poor comparison to obedience to God. "eernal salvation to them that OBEY him"

I thought it was a great comparison, myself!

Re: Christmas Gifts

NOW quit worrying about your son. He'll have many more Christmases before He gets your age. And the more times he has to beg the less it'll hurt him. In fact he could become an habitual Christmas beggar! don't you think? In fact, he might even get to the point of being tired of begging and just not show up for Christmas at your house at all! Just make sure you have made him feel as guilty as you can, otherwise him not getting Christmas gifts could be your fault! You know what I mean?

You know what, BT, I'm glad you brought that up. I haven't really tried making him feel guilty. I'll give that a try tomorrow.

You know, his brother is able to throw a baseball MUCH faster than 90 and it's effortless for him! Why can't THIS kid do it too? I just don't understand. You'd think if his brother can, he could too. In fact, most everyone in our family can throw a baseball that hard. Sigh. What's wrong with this kid?

I'm still convinced he's just not serious.

Be sure and get it across to him, "He's just gotta pay the price".....what ever that is!

I really appreciate your suggestions. It seems like I've seen a lot of kids that just can't throw that hard, that aren't willing to pay the price. Oh sure, they say they're trying hard, but I can tell by looking in their eyes that they just don't want it badly enough.

Re: Christmas Gifts

NOW this has been a great analogy. And from years gone past I always had a problem with "begging for a gift!" That just some way destroys the idea of it being a "GIFT"!

And you know, according to what I read in the New Testament, your son should have received "the gift" at the same time as the rest of you received it! Wasn't that the way it was, "it fell on all those who heard...!"

I just believe what happened then was for a particular time and purpose. There was no Bible at that time and what happened wasn't a bunch of "gibberish" it was languages so that men could hear what was being said to them. And I've never seen the "tongues as of fire!" Oh, I'm sorry I got off the subject!

Re: Christmas Gifts

Excellent illustrations! I'm thinking a good friend of mine could get you a time slot at the next General Conference to present this with the cast of characters you have mentioned. Hmmmmm let's see now ............ I wonder? ........ Oh excuse me I nodded off for a moment. But I had a dream and it was really a great dream!
