They either become cynical or there is such a pressure to perform that they start using the methods you outlined in your post.

If a church / pastor promotes a healing service and pays for a man to come do it he is under pressure to deliver. Over time that probably affects many of them in how they approach things. These type services really do remind me of gypsy's "psychic" services.
There is a LOT of pressure and it's all on one man to perform instead of being on the church in general and in the Lord's time instead of NOW, THIS SERVICE and THIS MAN.

  1. There is One God. This one God reveals Himself distinctly as Father, Son and Holy Ghost.
  2. The Son is God himself in a human form or "God manifested in the flesh" (1Tim 3:16)
  3. Every sinner must repent of their sins.
  4. That Jesus name baptism is the only biblical mode of water baptism.
  5. That the Holy Ghost is for today and is received by faith with the initial evidence of speaking in tongues.
  6. The saint will go on to strive to live a holy life, pleasing to God.

They had a very bad record deal with Curb records. Had great success as the opening act for major country artists but it took Curb two or three years to bring out their first CD and then it did not do well.

ABC actually looked at doing a tv series with them but didn't pick it up. They set a legal precedent by being the first musical artists to get out of a record deal by including it in their bankruptcy filing.

For a long time I thought maybe Carrie Underwood and one of the boys were romantically involved as you never saw her sing without him behind or beside her playing his "fiddle" (Tennessee talk).
I agree, but not my kind of music. They need a drummer

The Bustards are uncles of mine, and they, too, operate like this. VERY specific as well, not anything general. I personally know all these folks and they are genuine. I know firsthand.

Those are insensitive and hurtful things to do with people who are actually hurting. Jesus said, "Heal the sick" (Matthew 10:8), not "Put on a show and by slight of hand 'heal' some bystanders while ignoring the real needs of people in the hospitals."

I don't know the gentleman under discussion here so I can't really comment on him in any meaningful fashion, but what you've said is in general, right on.
