Re: I Prefer Pentecostal
There are a number of churches, organizations that call themselves Pentecostal. I have no problem when someone asks what my religious persuasion is, to say "Apostolic Pentecostal". Just like last week, a classmate who has recently moved back to our city, said, I know you are Pentecostal but the Assembly of God are Pentecostal too. I said we are Apostolic Pentecostals. She wants to have lunch with me and if she presses me further, I will then go further. I think what has caused her to question the difference is that another classmate, who was Assembly of God growing up, and was my best friend in school. Neither of us wore makeup, pants, and although she cut her hair, it was not short.
This classmate that has moved back to our city, said she had visited with ____, at the A of G, many times when growing up. The A of G classmate now belongs to the large Baptist Church, with her husband, who was the A of G pastor's son when we were in school. Today she wears heavy makeup, heavy jewelry, pants, short, dyed dark hair. Not saying this to be offensive or judge my dear friend. its just the facts.
Although I didn't receive the Holy Ghost until the year after I graduated, I didn't wear makeup, pants, cut my hair, etc., out of respect for my parents.Today, I have my own reasons for doing or not doing the things that I do. Don't go around telling others what to do or not do. We, as adults, make the choices in our lives. This is not to offend or judge anyone.
To me Apostolic means that we follow the doctrine (teaching) of the apostles of Jesus Christ. Pentecostal is the experience that was poured out and received on the Day of Pentecost. Real simple! Biblical too! I am not ashamed of the gospel of Jesus Christ for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth. To the Jew and also to the Greek.
