The French was proud of their industries especially their newly invented net type stockings which a delegation presented to the British Ambassador as a gift to Queen Victoria. The British Ambassador refusing to accept them was so embarrassed at the prospect of presenting them to the queen that he remarked in total exasperation, "Her majesty hath no legs!"

I didn't mention "looking at" (i.e., leering, staring, drooling over, etc.). It's one thing to stare or leer; it's another thing to simply "notice." If you don't notice that a beautiful woman is beautiful, then something is wrong with you. However, if you're a Christian, you don't turn a "notice" into a "stare."
My husband can notice anyone he likes. However, he'd better only "stare" at me.

Not a new idea, Prax. My sister broke up with a bf one time when she found out their church didn't allow women to shave their legs. (Or to go to the hospital to have a baby.)

I remember being among a group of people who were so holy that none of the women shaved their legs at all. It caused my mind to go in a whirl. I could not quit thinking about what was growing in their arm pits. These were good people in their own rite, but you could never break the ice with them unless you held the "standard of holiness" as they did and become exactly like them for years of probation. I loved those people but I could never be a part of them having come from more of a moderate background. I have fond memories of these dear people who seemed to love the Lord fervently.

Yes, it was to the everlasting grief of Elder JK. He and I have discussed it more than once.
However, I disagree with your assumption that it was going to be voted down. I was there in that side auditorium at Salt Lake that day. I heard the debate. Men such as Dees and DeHart was adamantly opposed to it but the vast majority sided with men like Paul Price. I knew that it was going to pass long before any discussion started and long before JK went to the podium.
Somewhere on the internet there is an article that I wrote concerning that terrible day entitled: The Broken Reed of Egypt and the Rod of God.
