Chiropractors

As many of you know, had a back injury last fall (I prefer to call it Autumn now!!)
I had a L2 compressed spinal fracture and a torn disc in the sacrum area. The disc continues to to cause pain an numbness in my leg and foot from time to time.

I have had tons of x-rays MRI and CAT scans. The Orthopedic Dr seemed to think I was headed toward surgery unless I responded well to physical therapy. Of course I got better, then worse then better. The workers comp peeps don't think highly of chiropractic manipulation. I have had three trips to a chiropractor in spite of that, and do get some relief when I go.

What are your thoughts on Chiropractic care? Any experience, good or bad? Are they a scam? Should I cave and opt for surgery? I am not so inclined at this point...

Please share your thoughts and experiences.

Re: Chiropractors

A friend of mine was told she needed back surgery, there was no other option. According to her doctor, it was either back surgery or live with extreme pain the rest of her life (she was 48).

Instead she went to a chiropractor (spirit-filled one) for about six months (first twice a week, then once a week, then every other week... you get the idea). Her pain subsided. She never got surgery. (She does NOT suffer with back pain to this day--And it's 25 years later.)

This same chiropractor treated me for migraines (which basically just consisted of "adjustments"). I went a grand total of ten visits... and I went from having migraines several times a week ALL MY ADULT LIFE to only getting one migraine every 6 months (if that often). The doctors had wanted to put me on antidepressants (Paxil) and tranquilizers (Xanax) for my migraines. I chose chiropractic and prayer.

So for me.... my chiropractor was a God send ... (and I also haven't been back for years... Haven't had to!!!)

I wish you the best, Hoovie. Hope you find the right man for the job (as I also have heard horror stories about other chiropractors).

Praying for ya!

Re: Chiropractors

I have never gone to a chiropractor myself, but many friends and relatives have had excellent results.

Re: Chiropractors

I injured my l2 over four yrs ago. What I was told is that two discs touching. I was in a lot of pain. Somehow things readjusted enough on their own that I did not go through with surgery. I had a bad fall this yr. My fall was broken by the old injury. I was in bed for a week and walked around veeery slooowly for another week or two after that. I thought it was OVER for me! I am not insured at the moment and was afraid that I was going to need surgery. Things healed and the affected area feels better now than before the fall. Yeah, none of this is what you wanted to hear. Take NSAID's to manage the pain. Try light stretching.

Glad it worked for you and your friend. I have had limited success so far... though I know many do claim huge benefits of chiropractic care. There seems to be an aweful lot of negative info on chiropractic.

But I think that is the case for surgery too. I know some have no pain after surgery, but many do. My mother recently had laser surgery on her neck and is recovering well. Laser seems to have far less complications.

Don't know really what to recommend but I will be praying for you and asking God to guide you in the best direction for your need.

Re: Chiropractors

I much preferred the chiropractic treatments to relieve my pain, than the shots my doctor gave me.

Re: Chiropractors

We had a rear-end collision over a year ago. I had pain in my lower back and right leg. My Chiropractor worked on me and also administered acupuncture on every visit. It helped me and I would recommend it.

Re: Chiropractors

I have gone to Chiropractors- on and off for about 30 years. I go to one now about every two weeks and get great relief when I do go. I have used Chiropractors who use conventional methods and those who use the activator. I have done well with both and really recommend them. I hope you can find a good one!
