So apparently, I completely missed the point of the thread. Please forgive my little rant.

I found it interesting. I know a good number of kids, UPC and not UPC, who are raised in incredibly controlling environments or feel as if they are overwhelmed with legalism and completely rebel.

I think that it's sad that often, churches do the opposite of what they are supposed to and alienate young believers instead of attracting them.

Loved this post!! LOL!!

My question is - Why haven't you been kicked out of your UPC church for wearing a necklace????

(on a very serious note so good to have a Pentecostal teen posting on here and good luck at University!)

"We did not wear uniforms. The lady workers dressed in the current fashions of the day, ...silks...satins...jewels or whatever they happened to possess. They were very smartly turned out, so that they made an impressive appearance on the streets where a large part of our work was conducted in the early years.

"It was not until long after, when former Holiness preachers had become part of us, that strict plainness of dress began to be taught.

"Although Entire Sanctification was preached at the beginning of the Movement, it was from a Wesleyan viewpoint, and had in it very little of the later Holiness Movement characteristics. Nothing was ever said about apparel, for everyone was so taken up with the Lord that mode of dress seemingly never occurred to any of us."

I'm sure that there are a few who would have me leave if they could. I'm not sure that I'll attend a UPC church in the fall, but I am determined to find a good church and stay faithful.

You should do fine in college based on your posts/answers. It sounds like you're a bright, "sold out to Christ" young lady.

Wow...now that is wisdom! I did not come to Christ until I was 16yrs old, and we had a great Youth Minister, and truthfully that was the single biggest influence in keeping me in Church as a young newbie.

I can't help but think that we are all a end result of our own environments. that which we are saturated in becomes part and reflection of who we are or are becoming...in the case of this young lady it is very positive!

As a Father and Husband I constantely rack my brain and spirit over how I am leading my home. Both of my children are in public school, and we usually have Bible reading and discussion one night a week together. I have never raised them with all the organizational stances, but we have preached Christ, the Word, Morals, Ethics, Modesty etc. They are now 11yrs and 10yrs, and are great kids...I believe because of Christ.

Anyway, it is refreshing to hear from a young adults perspective!
