Planking? Owling? Why Not?

Planking is described as the practice of lying down flat with arms to the side, to mimic a wooden plank. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Planking_(fad)

Plenty of you tube stuff on planking.

Now the new craze is Owling.

http://hamptons.guestofaguest.com/th...-owling-is-in/

So are you ready to try this stuff? Seriously, it's big - especially among teens. I have actually seen the planking thing at church, but no Owling yet.

PS If you have to ask why do this stuff you missed the point entirely.

Teens--understandable. But over 25s? Those need therapy. (Call Obama, there's prolly free therapy provided in the stimulus package.)

Nevertheless, I do a REAL plank for 2 minutes every day, as an anti back pain exercise. But you hold your arms out and forward and up a couple inches (think Superman flying pose) and you have to straighten the legs out with knees lifted a couple inches above floor. Head/chin is an inch high, too. Hold this for 2 whole minutes, and report back, please.

I did it! It's similar to other exercises my PT has me do. Feels great afterward, but rough while you are doing it.

Side planks? Do you raise your leg up?

Excellent! Forgot to mention that your feet aren't allowed to touch down either for the 2 mintues, but I'll assume you figured that. I read a "Swedish Study" that said failure to be able to do this plank for 2 minutes had high prediction rate for back problems to occur within next two years, if not already present, or something like that.

Arpha: Please describe a proper side plank. I wanna try that.

Sorry for that sidetrack. Someone please return thread to the fad type planking/owling thing. Never heard of "owling" till now. But here's the weirdest thing to do with owls. This is possible, but wonder if it's a hoax in this case. (Pretty current.)

Re: Planking? Owling? Why Not?

only your left forearm and edge of your left foot touch the floor, you're sideways with your legs together' your right arm at your side, hold for a minute,or longer, than do the other side. and keep a straghit line on whatever side is on the bottom.

Re: Planking? Owling? Why Not?

I must be really old. I only heard of planking this week, and I don't understand it at all. I haven't even heard of owling till this very minute.
