Convictions

I notice alot of varied opinions on convictions on this site. Such as would a woman go to hell if she wore pants? Shame for a man with long hair? Than others saying their opinions. Yes and No. Both ways. I do this and I dont.

There was a lady in our church (a new zealous convert) , who walked up to someone who was also a new convert and stated, "You have to wear skirts." Well, that lady got offended and never came back. Our pastor rebuked her and said not everyone has her conviction of wearing a skirt as others do and reminded the congregation also (this wasnt the first nor the last). A instance with me, for example, I didn't get convicted for not listening to my pastor and some of his preaching (an authority issue). But as time went on and I got more zealous, I remember sitting in a early morning Sunday school and his wife saying some scriptures regarding authority. Well, somewhere in there, I got convicted. I wasn't under authority to my Pastor and it was a revelation. I told my Pastor excitedly and he said, "you see, that wasn't me telling you. that was God." so from than on, I listened and obeyed my Pastor.

Rebuke me if I'm wrong, but i consider convictions and spiritual growth to that of a human newborn. a baby doesnt know its walking around naked till it grows up and realizes what it's doing. So continue in your faith with Christ and do what you think is right until you get a guilty conscience on a certain issue you didnt have before.

Id like some insight from the elders here now!

I agree that it is better to teach the word and allow people to develop their own relationship and convictions as God deals with them.

Actually I have heard of it and even had ladies tell me in different faiths that they were convicted of pants..

Also I've had people tell me that local Baptist churches used to pass out tract that taught "WHy a women should not wear pants" Several has testified to this.

A local Baptist church several miles east of here had strict rules on women wearing pants. I have never been there but knew a couple people who went there. Women wearing pants were not allowed into the building. A a woman came to deliver something and she had on pants she could not enter the building. Women who were visiting could not wear pants.

I don't know what would have happened if some guest just dropped her pants and left them outside the door and walked on in. Maybe they would have blankets to put over people like that like some churches put blankets over people when they fall (or are pushed) to the floor.

Re: Convictions

The word origin means guilty

Origin:
1400–50; late Middle English < Late Latin convictiōn- (stem of convictiō ) proof (of guilt). See convict, -ion

The modern use of the word can be used to mean a belief
