REAL Spiritual Abuse

The events of this story occurred during the early 80's. Coincidentally, when we first joined the church and I was going through my toughest years. I am sure that stories like these are probably much less common in the UPC then they were at that time simply because most of the fringe pastors, such as the one here, have left the org a long time ago.

It does make me shudder to read this, and also wonder a bit, as well as even making me a bit angry, why people let themselves put up with it!

I agree, and more than one story of the horse thats alive.

But if one of those alive horses touted their life story here, all the dead horses would come back as zombie horses and try to eat their brains.

So as a horse thats alive, Im just trying to do my part to return the favor.

Sorry Randy, but that is hardly worth reading. A lot of hearsay... may or may not be true...

But can we really afford to ignore it if it is? Note my clever use of inverse logic there!

Re: REAL Spiritual Abuse

Many other Churches besides UPC are accused of things just like those mentioned here. The owner of that site Lois Gibson as far as I can tell still believes in Oneness.

I mentioned in my first post that I really don't believe there are many in the UPC anymore that do what this pastor and church did. It does seem that there was an exodus of the fringe UC's in the late 80's and early 90's which left the org much more moderate (on average) than it used to be. And this was even before the split brought on by the television advertisement vote.

Re: REAL Spiritual Abuse

I visited that site when we first left the UPC, and many of the stories I could relate to. It helped knowing that there were others out there who were like-minded.

But a continuous diet of "poor me" gets old. Really old. At some point, you have to move on in your life, and let go as much as possible of the past. Digging it up and rehashing it over and over, really serves no purpose.

I have found I really can't read that stuff any longer, but just pray that each one of those poor souls finds a place to heal.

I am a living testimony of the grace of God that can bring healing out of bad situations, and NO injustice or wrong is too big that the grace of God can't bring healing.

Yeah. I don't read that stuff much either. Once in a while I read a book about it like Escape by Carolyn Jessop. That was a very good book if you could stomach the contents.

If people really want to talk about abuse issues, there are a number of forums for that (of which I do not frequent any of them) where people can talk with others and heal and they can even continue on and on forever if they want.
