That Old King James

That Old King James at The Grand Ole Opry
with Scotty McCreery

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IAf3CaPIFqs

That Old King James

Preacher gave it to him when he was eight
That Sunday morning he got saved in that little church.
Granddaddy toted it to Sunday School
I bet back then it looked brand new, not a faded word
Now the cover’s torn and the leather’s worn on that old King James

He took it with him overseas, to England, France and Germany
Right there in the middle of hell
Said he read it every night, he swore that it’d saved his life
His only hope when there was no hope left was in that old King James

Passed it down to Mama on the day he died
Sat there for the longest time just gathering the dust
But when life would take a sharp turn every now and then
And she would just start missing him, I’d see her pick it up
Now the cover’s torn and the leather’s worn on that old King James

You’ll find on every other page, yellow lines or tear drop stains
Every chapter of that good book
Been through cancer, war and crazy kids, all the stupid things I did
I may never know the toll I took on her and that old King James

Yeah, I’m the one who’s got it now
She said, “Read it when you’re feeling down,” and I said, “Yes ma’am”
Now the cover’s torn and the leather’s worn on that old King James.

It works even better when we make it a regular part of our life!

Re: That Old King James

Makes me sick to see music people walk in the secular, sing secular music, entertain in secular venues... and then in hopes of making themselves more marketable, picking up the sacred every once in a while to convince themselves they're all right. This country singer, singing a song about the Word is just as bad as the rappers who glorify illicit sex, killing cops, and brutalizing women saying they thank God when they win an award.

You can't serve two masters Scotty McCreery....

Matthew 6:24 No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.

Revelation 3:15-16 I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot: I would thou wert cold or hot. So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth.

2 Timothy 3:5-7 Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away. For of this sort are they which creep into houses, and lead captive silly women laden with sins, led away with divers lusts, Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.

Mathew 7:21-23 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.

What do you know about this young man?

How is he serving two masters?

Kinda quick on the judgment.

Can only go off the fruit you see to know a tree. The Scriptures teach that music is to be used only as worship to God, imo. I believe the only music acceptable in the life of a believer is Sacred, God edifying music... and that to partake in any manner of secular music, performing, listening, entertainment venues, is sin. This young man performs in the honky tonk district here in Nashville, and was the winner of a secular music competition, American Idol. Doesn't take a rocket scientist to know that is all secular. Secular music, and any Christian music that is non-biblical, is from the very pit of hell, and an age old tool used by the enemy to deceive many folks. According to my study of the Scriptures, music was never intended to be for entertainment purposes.... for the flesh. Music as intended to be only as an act of worship.

Wow. That's sad. Life must be a party all the time in your household.

"Did I hear you singing Happy Birthday? That's secular! Tell your friends the party is over. They have to go home. You need to go repent. Singing songs that don't glorify God will make you burn int he fioery pits of HELLLLLLL!"

Re: That Old King James

I suppose one's wedding must only have worship songs as well? Bride walk down the aisle to "How Great Is Our God" by Chris Tomlin?

I suppose you never play a little "mood music" when the kids aren't home and you want to have cuddle time with the wife since that music is sinful form the gates of hell itself?

Actually, any wedding that I officiate at, or am asked to do the music for knows ahead of time that I won't do anything but Sacred music, and yes, I've been to numerous weddings of Christian's that had nothing but sacred music for the whole service. The last one I attended the bride marched down the aisle to the Hymn, "Great Is Thy Faithfulness". Every song was either a hymn, a worship chorus, etc. Not one secular love song, and it was wonderful... the Holy Ghost was there in that service in a wonderful way. I've been to numerous weddings, across denominational lines, that didn't have any secular music in them at all, and they were wonderful... after all, shouldn't a wedding be a worship service as well????

No, I don't sing Happy Birthday, or Jingle Bells, or We wish you a merry christmas, or any other secular song... and was raised in our BAPTIST home to not do so. I grew up with many, baptist, Church of God, and other kids that they had the same rule in their home as well.

Regarding "mood music", I'm single. But there again, think about what your typing. Your using music for entertainment purposes, and I don't believe it's for that purpose, therefore, I would never have music to set a "mood" anyway.
