... and Bro Robbins... It just that you seem so uptight about EVERYTHING... I mean I don't know you but I have trouble trying to imagine you having fun...

I know I'm old and kind of doty... but I believe that God gave us our lives to be lived and enjoyed as much as is possible without sinning... Turning everything into a sin severely limits our ability to live.

Re: That Old King James

Brother Sam, you did nothing wrong in posting the music. You cannot help which direction the discussion takes.

Brother Robbins, you most certainly have the right to your opinion. Sometimes I take issues with people's opinion, but only because sometimes I think that it is a "learned opinion". Not saying that about you because I do not know your heart.

I've taken my share of criticisms of my opinions as well.

What it all boils down to is that we each want to be "right" in our opinion and anything contrary to that is hard to swallow.

But I want you to know that just because I take issue with something, it doesn't mean that I dislike that you or any other person that does not see things the same as me.

I am in my late 50s and I am still learning about God and about people. At times, I still have to eat humble pie that somebody else baked for me.
None of us can claim that "we have arrived".

Peace to you Brother Robbins.

Ya, even when I was at my wildest during my mid 20's I hated that song (along with Short Short Man -the radio edit title of that song for those wondering) and a few others. When I DJ'ed during much of my 30's I played all the regular DJ hits by Billy Idol and Roy Orbison but refused to play the two just mentioned.

Re: That Old King James

Just because a secular country artist sings a spiritual song, doesn't make him or her spiritual. This guy is about as spiritual as my left shoe lace.

Nice song. Just wouldn't listen to it again from him.

If I want spiritual music, I wouldn't listen to anything secular.

If I wanted to set the mood (if I were married) I have nothing against a love song.

Music opens the spirit up. Be careful what you feed on.

So poor Scotty, a very outspoken Christian young man, is demonized by someone who claims the Bible teaches that music is only for sacred purposes. I will take Scotty over someone who either can't read or doesn't understand what he is reading.

So let's get this right... the folks that want to come on here and bash Lifestyle Holiness, bash institutionalized church, bash UPC (which I'm not even a member of), talk about how they've seen the light regarding hair length, how they are at liberty to drink alcohol... and so much more... they aren't forcing their beliefs on anyone... they are just speaking their opinions.

But because mine is one that you find obtrusive, harsh, and disdainful... I'm somehow pushing my convictions on others....

Thanks... needed a good example of Double Standard.... appreciate you providing the updated example of one.
I asked you a question, which you ignored... have you ever sang a song written by someone obviously living in sin, i.e. Hank Williams as in I Saw the Light?

We can realize that the spirit of God can move in someone's life who may not be completely surrendered to God in their lifestyle. But who am I to judge the condition of people's heart? Who are YOU to judge Scotty's heart? Who am I to judge you?

And I don't mean to come across as judgmental in any way. That was not my intent. My intent was just to have you think a little bit about all the music, and hymns that we sing in our congregations... do you know the heart of each and every songwriter who wrote them? Do you know the heart of each and every one that sings a song?

Just sayin.... that this mentality will take you down a road where you might only have listen to your own singing.... I dunno.....

And PEACE Bro. I appreciate your heart for God, and your love for the truth. I really do. Just thought I would open this mindset up a little bit for you....

Re: That Old King James

Well, lots of us love the songs sung on the Gaither videos and songs written by Bill and Gloria Gaither, yet some among us do not even consider Bill and Gloria to be saved or children of God.
