I believe there's a fundamental error in thinking salvation is an "IT." Jesus himself is salvation.
Salvation (eternal life) is Jesus abiding in us.
All these things such as tast not, touch not, handle not, etc, Paul already addressed them in Colossians. When people thoroughly understand that salvation is Jesus himself, they'd stop squibbling over carnal things such as earrings, clothes, drinks...etc (which are all things that perish)
Col 2(NIV)
20 Since you died with Christ to the elemental spiritual forces of this world, why, as though you still belonged to the world, do you submit to its rules:
21 “Do not handle! Do not taste! Do not touch!”?
22 These rules, which have to do with things that are all destined to perish with use, are based on merely human commands and teachings.
23 Such regulations indeed have an appearance of wisdom, with their self-imposed worship, their false humility and their harsh treatment of the body, but they lack any value in restraining sensual indulgence.
An intimate deep walk with Jesus is what salvation is about. Now, the more a person draws closer to the LORD, the less the apetite to focus on self. It'd be more about Jesus than oneself.
Salvation is far deeper than carnal things...
Let's get to this point: John 5:30
By myself I can do nothing; I judge only as I hear, and my judgment is just, for I seek not to please myself but him who sent me.
No squabble intended. Jesus Christ himself drank wine, we do not know that he did or did not wear jewelry, and his clothing choices were much different than modern mans to say the least.
I am astounded to see how long this thread has run...

It wasn't directed to anyone in particular. It's just a general trend in christendom...to argue about carnal things: "touch not, taste not, handle not" kind of things...which are FAR AWAY from what salvation is about.
