Friend is Unitarian Universalist:

I have a friend who is "Unitarian Universalist". I've been introduced to "Christian Universalism" on AF. But the Unitarian Universalist is an entirely different animal. She believes in Jesus, and even that God was in Christ. She also denies the Trinity. However, she believes that the very God who was in Christ was also in Buddah, Krishna, Zoroaster, and others. She believes that just as Jesus spoke from His humanity, these men spoke from their humanity...thus many of their perspectives differ... but the God on the inside was the same. While trying to witness to her I brought up that Jesus said,
John 14:6
Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
Her answer to this was that the very same identity that speaks in Christ also spoke in Buddah and others. Therefore, Jesus, Buddah, Krishna, etc. are all that very same "me"... and the very same Father existed in each.

I'm thinking that all I can do is pray for her. She has a Charismatic background and claims she has received the Holy Ghost. She's not against being baptized in Jesus name, but she states that she doesn't see giving up her broader perspective.

How would you approach this?

Thanks!

Re: Friend is Unitarian Universalist:

You are right, you need to pray. My very dearest friend and the only woman in the world I call my sister (not in Chirst) is UU.

They believe in supporting everyones responisble search for truth and meaning, which in essence means you can believe any and everything you like as long as it does not harm another. The potential to loose sight of God in this atmosphere is huge. My friend went from being an ungrounded believer to being anti-theist pretty quickly. She now says that the Bible is not a particualr touchstone for her. She has a huge ivy league education and can argue a blue streak... so I am doing what I know how by covering her with prayer.

If your friend is still in a place where she will except a bible study I would spend time in the word with her.

Sorry to not have a better outlook for your situation.

They don't believe Jesus is both God and man.

Re: Friend is Unitarian Universalist:

According to my sis... they do not dictate what their members believe but most are not Christian in the traditional sense although it is not forbidden in any way to hold that view as long as one does not force it on another who is on their journey for truth and meaning.

So really there is NO collective 'they'.
