Sis Alvear Question

Sis Alvear, do you have any social programs in your church to help deal with or overcome poverty?

I am reading a book called, "coping with poverty, pentecostals and christian base communities in brazil"

what is your opinion of christian base communities? do you have any contact with them? thanks.

Re: Sis Alvear Question

Yes, over the years we have worked in many areas helping the people. We have had sewing classes and brought sewing machines to Brazil, we have taught soap making, gardening, and things like that in different areas. We have also give many lessons on finances.
In the jungle area we also plant and in south Brazil we plant. We did plant here but our village became to small and now we have another type project going in our area.

At one time we had fish ponds but we do not have them now.

I think a christian community is awesome if it does not become a cult which happens often...

I always love raising chickens and rabbits especially rabbits because they multiply so fast...ha...lots more food however as a whole the Brazilians do not eat rabbits...so I just fix them and do not tell them what they are eating...lol...

Yes, I visited a community here and spent a few nights with them but they were very cultish and felt very unconfortable. However they treated me real sweet but their was something there that did not feel to me just right.

Re: Sis Alvear Question

that is great news sis alvear, that you are not just preaching the gospel, but trying to help people better their lives.

i thought christian base communities were catholic groups that gather to plan and organize community projects. how are they cultish? do you mean they become more political than religious or some kind of religious cult?
