If any of us are not honest enough to admit we have struggles, we have fooled ourselves.
We can die out to sin one day, but the next day, or maybe even the next hour... it is a new battle that we face. Paul said we have to die daily. That means we have to crucify our fleshly natures and sinful desires daily. It is a battle that we all fight, each and every day.
The problem is when we think somehow we have "beat" the sin in our lives, we can let down our guard. The sin will come back in a new form of packaging, and tempt us in a different way. We have an enemy who seeks the destruction of our souls.
The only way to constantly stand against the attack of the enemy is to spend TIME in the presence of the Lord each and every day, and to allow the spirit to convict our hearts of things that may seem even silly to others, but as a sign of obedience to the spirit working in us.
When we begin to obey the spirit that speaks to us about the little things in our lives, we can begin to build our "spiritual muscles" for the attacks of the enemy that come against us on a daily basis.
That is why fasting is so necessary, because it denies the flesh one of its greatest needs, food... and allows the spirit to begin to reign fully in one's life. Fasting is a great place to begin to allow the spirit to do its work in the believer's life.
