Sure, the government might get the brain dead idea to seize funds, but it would be so socially disruptive (as in people would riot) that it wouldn't happen. It's worth reminding people that it would not take a government confiscation to cause your 401K to dwindle to nothing; all that's needed is a failure of the market the underlying securities are invested in. The only thing that is absolutely guaranteed is your bank deposits up to $250K (by the FDIC) everything else, not so much. So yeah it could happen here but it doesn't require government intervention, just a failure of the market as occurred in 1929.

Right now the easiest way to cut the national debt in half is to devalue the currency by 50%.

So, commonsense, can you substantiate your claims? CC1 says they are unsubstantiated. I noticed he didn't ask if they WERE substantiated.  Anyway, where are you getting your info commonsense?
