I'm not trying to pick at you or belabor this point, but the question arises...
Does the lack of any of these things mean we haven't had a regular service?

Possibly. I mean from what I read a church meeting is about worshiping God, His word, prayer and ministering to various needs of the and sinners. Thats the goal.
Clearly you can see the difference between programs and a servics right?
Is a Christmas banquet a church service? A birthday party for the Pastor!
I don't believe so, not a regular one or beyond regular. Regular means usual or common. What we normally do
But the point is that we can have our programs AND have a message instead of just a slide show, gifts for fathers etc etc...
Or have their programs and hope the visitors come back next time to hear the word and not trash (as in this thread) those that feel alienated.

The older I get, the more I am understanding that the Word can be heard not just in preaching or teaching, and it is all necessary, but can also be found in a song or a spoken word of love.
I know I have felt the essence of the Word in the kindness and love shown...
And I do understand what you are saying...I'm just saying again that there is more here than what we may think.
As I fear I am truly belaboring this point, I will let it go...

Re: Alienated Church: Father's and Mother's day
Let's look at the flip side for a minute:
Special programs sometimes bring in people who wouldn't normally come for a regular service.
If they like what they feel from the members, and enjoy the music, etc. they just may come back for a regular service.
What's the harm in giving up a couple of services each year to do something special for others?
And the problem with saying "Well, I'm not going to go since this doesn't pertain to me" is that you may rob the visitor of the full effect of the entire congregation.
Just playing Devil's Advocate here, Prax, not accusing you of anything, or saying you're wrong.
Just offerering a different viewpoint.

Re: Alienated Church: Father's and Mother's day
This thread makes me think of Prax standing on his porch screaming at kids "YOU KIDS GET OFF MY LAWN". LOL. It just makes me think of him as a grumpy old man for some reason.
