Need a little Home Improvement help

(Yes I have noticed the In-Provment instead of Improvement. Sorry as I said before not the smartest person)

~*What should I do about the Kitchen Floor*~

Hello it seems I am once again in need of help and I can not turn to my family for this because it is a surprise.

You see in November my sister who lives in another state is to have a baby girl but the thing is that at this same time she needs someone to look after her just turned 1 year old son so my mother is leaving the house for two weeks to go and help her out.
So I had this wonderful idea, for years now my mother has complained on how she wanted to repaint the kitchen and so I thought to go about saving up the money to do just that, so that when she returns she will have a brand new looking kitchen and she will stop complaining about it!

But you see I wanted to buy Linoleum for the kitchen floor but I do not know how much to buy and if I was to go to the store to go ahead with my planes she might get the hint of what I am planning so I can not have that,
Just so you know my grand father built the house when my mother was just a little girl and so it is a bit old, a 1973 house and so it has cinder block walls and cement floors (yes very horrible to keep warm during winter but thank goodness we live in the south).
So I just measured the floor while she was busy and the measurements I took were odd and I checked them five times just to make sure!
The kitchen is 12' X 13' and so I was wondering just how much square foot is that?

Mind you I am not the smartest person in the world (or so I have been told by my sisters, grand father and such) but surely someone here can help me?

It is either get enough Linoleum to cover the kitchen floor or I will need to by a can of $30 Behr Cement paint.
But already need to get a single Gallon just for the walls, I don't want to have to paint the floors too!

So some help would be a blessing. ~ Bonnie

~*What should I do with the Cabinets?*~

Since we are on the topic of Home Improvement what should I do about the cabinets?
Currently they are blue just like the walls and believe me over so many years it is chipped, fading, suffering from tomato sauce explosion (don't ask) and so I was wondering if you had any thoughts on this matter.

I was thinking of painting the kitchen a lovely yellow as a country theme and was thinking that the cabinets would look really nice if they were repainted.

So could you tell me which color would be best?
Whiteor Green

I think White would be nice but so would a Sage Green which White here and there.
Any help would be nice because as I said in my first post, I can not go to my family for there ideas. ~ Bonnie

Re: Need a little Home In-Provement help

Your square footage is almost 150.

A cement floor is cheaper to paint than putting in Linoleum, but good Linoleum feels so wonderful on your feet.

Also, painting your floor is no big deal if you use a roller. In between drying time, you can put the roller cover in a plastic bag and put it in the refrigerator. No need to wash it. When done, just throw it away.

With a pale yellow, I like the idea of painting the top half of cabinets and walls yellow, and the bottom half of cabinets white. Although, I don't know what your countertops look like.

I've used both oil based and semi-gloss and find there isn't that much difference in the durability, if it's a good brand. I always purchase Behr paint, so good for you! Behr is my fav!

This floor can be purchased in Linoleum or painted, which would be a blast.

I also like the all yellow with white elements.

This is a perfect yellow to me. I like pale as possible - calming.

This is what I don't care for - lots of white and a little yellow. Too much white for me.

If you are wanting to add Green, maybe you like these color combos:

Throwing in some blue:

Lots of green, but you gives you more choices to work with:

A different direction throwing in some coral and pink:

Good luck with your project!!

HA! Me neither!

I do love to paint, and did a lot of this past month with my dad. Actually did a lot of staining and working on outdoor furniture. I like quick easy projects with pretty immediate results.. I'm not real patient with long drawn out projects. But I have seen PO's handiwork painting chairs, and the girl has talent!! It's not for me!
