Re: UPCI to remove televsion prohibition...
The ban should removed. Laws don't change hearts. These ministers should have enough good sense to get rid of their TV's without some stupid legalism. David Wilkerson wasn't even apostolic and he cried out against TV regularly.

Agreed.
We chose to pitch ours out about 13 years ago, and haven't missed it yet. Each of us should be able to make the choice from personal conviction.

Re: UPCI to remove televsion prohibition...
Resolution #2
Whereas, Our elders took an important, principled, and correct stand against the evils of television in 1954 when they adopted the fourth paragraph on holiness in our Articles of Faith in response to the invention of television and other changes in society; and
Whereas, The need to enunciate the principles upon which our elders acted and apply them in light of technological changes and more complex choices today remains; and
Whereas, Traditional television is now merging with other technologies that we have accepted, such as computers, online media, satellite and cable deliveries, media players, smart phones, tablets, and game consoles; and
Whereas, Some forms of video technology are obsolete but new forms have been invented and are continuing to be invented; and
Whereas, We must continue to uphold our position on holiness of life and holiness in the use of all communications technology; and
Whereas, In view of the symbolic nature of media for our movement, we must be careful not to signal any compromise of belief or lifestyle; therefore
Resolved, That Article VII, Section 7, Paragraphs 31 and 32 be replaced with the following as Paragraph 31, and all following paragraphs be renumbered appropriately:
31. No minister having a television in his or her home shall be permitted to hold license or credentials with the United Pentecostal Church International. This does not preclude the option to use television for advertising.
32. The use of video must strictly be limited to those areas in which motion picture cameras and projectors are traditionally permitted to be used: namely, in taking of pictures of families, friends, and church activities and the viewing of educational, religious, and inspirational films that are consistent with wholesome Christian principles. Furthermore, we strongly oppose the viewing of all worldly motion pictures and video films that are shown commercially in theatres and on television for entertainment purposes. All video receivers must be altered so that they are not able to receive television channels.
31. The use of all media technology must strictly be limited to educational, religious, inspirational, and family content that is consistent with wholesome Christian principles. No minister shall use television or other media technology for the purpose of viewing worldly, carnal and unwholesome media; endeavouring to maintain a Godly atmosphere and influence in their lives.

Re: UPCI to remove televsion prohibition...
I don't have a television... That decision is not for religious reasons it is because I don't have time to watch it.

Re: UPCI to remove televsion prohibition...
I would think it would have to pass. You can't even imagine how many men I know who are UPCI pastors who have televisions in their homes already. At some point, the nonsense has to stop. People are going to have the things anyway. You might as well not fight it. This is one of those areas where I feel strongly that God will guide you INDIVIDUALLY. Some may never have a TV. Others may not have a problem having one in their home at all. Use wisdom and it's not a bad thing in itself.

Re: UPCI to remove televsion prohibition...
Now, what does that mean? Do they mean just the equipment or the ability to watch cable t.v? some have the t.v to watch DVDs....would this apply to them?

Re: UPCI to remove televsion prohibition...
Like I stated before, I HOPE this passes! If people do not want a TV in their home, I do not think anyone is holding a gun to their head...so WHY should THEY think it is OK for people who do not have a problem with TV to have one? WHY should they hold others in the organization hostage to THEIR beliefs?
It also disturbs me that so many who do not own a TV watch all kind of movies on netflix...but HEY that's OK because it is not TV? No to me they are hypocrites! The worst kind.
Then you have some who watch TV on their I pad or iphone....but again...it is OK...because they do not really OWN a TV....but the show they watch is the exact same one they show on a TV!
This kind of legalisim is really really past it's time. I think this should be taken out and if people are going to leave the organization over something that stupid...LET THEM! Those kind of people probably would not be happy in the organization anyway...it would still be "too loose" for them, so let them leave and find someplace else they can act superior!
It is time that the UPCI gets to a place of letting people decide for themselves how they live for God. Not try to dictate it by some manual!
Hopefully COMMON SENSE will prevail on this issue this time around!

Because...
Because the primary concept of a religious organization is that it is organized around a set of beliefs.

By similar token, no one is holding a gun to anyone's head to remain within an organization they fundamentally disagree with.

Yes, this issue is obviously no longer fundamental enough to warrant all the fuss. Some ships are able to turn quickly, some can only turn slowly, yet others can even tack upwind. And some begin a turn, lose part of the starboard bow (right side) from battery explosion, limp to harbor, attempt repairs, and return a bit more fleet-footed.
