Did you mourn leaving the UPC?

For those of you who deliberately left the UPC or similar organization, were you conflicted at the time of your departure or did you know with certainty what you had to do and rejoice?

We are at a crossroads and must make movement soon. God has opened doors for us to explore non-UPC, Acts 2:38 non-standards driven churches in our area. Churches we didn't know existed, but with a little digging and prayer, we've found a handful that seem to meet the criteria we've set.

And while we are currently frustrated with the UPC, we cannot help but feel sadness over the idea of leaving. Our hearts are heavy, and we don't make this decision lightly. It's proving harder to take that next step than I anticipated.

There is def a mourning process. There will be those welcoming you with open arms, those from your past (or current) that don't understand but still show support, and those who will judge you as lost. It's not an easy decision and I felt like I was set free, but was afraid to walk out of the "cell" so to speak.

Those you leave behind will treat you in ways you never dreamed possible.

We knew we had to leave, but it was very, very hard, like a death, or a divorce. I still mourn sometimes.

Re: Did you mourn leaving the UPC?

It was difficult for me because the UPC was all I had ever known. And, it was a little bit different because our entire church left. We instantly became 'persona non grata' and people who we loved and respected and thought love us suddenly were very distant. There are some who have been true Christians and were kind enough to ask when suddenly our church that had provided the musicians and singers for the worship services at district functions for the previous several years was just 'not there'. So far as I know nothing was said publicly but rumors and falsehoods made the rounds and some of those found their way to us from relatives and friends in other churches.

Re: Did you mourn leaving the UPC?

I was raised AoG but when it came time to get my credintials I did not get seek to get them with the AoG but with a smaller Pentecostal fellowship out of Russellville Arkansas. I chose this course because I believe that the AoG has become wordly and liberal. I guess I am coming at this from a different angle than most but still left what I was use to.

Luke why do you believe that the Assemblies has become worldly and liberal?

We left UPC 7 years ago and have been in the Assemblies but I was not raised in it so I might see things different and I was Baptized in the Holy Ghost in 1979 in the Church of God and have heard the same thing about the Church of God.

Dude, attending a COG service is like going to a funeral-- at least the one here in Orlando is like that. I had never been so let down in all my days.

My Mom was raised COG. She says worldliness is why the COG is the way it is.

The difference between her Apostolic conversion and my Dad's Apostolic conversion is curious to me.

Something I think about often is that as a young kid, my Mom didn't say we were Apostolic or Pentecostal. She said we were "Holiness" and that we would always be "Holiness".

I sure do appreciate my Mom.
