Re: Hair and Nature?

possible conclusions:

Society views cut hair on a man as submission to authority. Long hair on a man symbolizes flouting social conventions/rebellion. (culture vs nature)

Long hair on a women is a sign of health and fertility making her function as child bearer more likely. (here nature may play a role in natural selection)

A shaved head is a symbol of shame and disgrace. (culture vs nature)

funny how those morph according to which culture one goes by, also. the shaved head for women thing would still hold strongly in most of the third world, i believe; but Bjork in London wouldn't get a 2nd glance.

The two male pictures reminded me of something that happened at work.Electrician short hair man drilling down thru ceiling to run wire thru hole.Long hair man inside room just below I think he was drilling holes thru wall to run wire also.Drills are run by air that had ports that let air out that blew by your face.Short hair guy drilling down long hair guy drilling below with air blowing by face and long hair comes in contact with drill bit.It was ahair raising event or should I say pulling.

I'm not sure if we want to depend upon society's views and acceptance of 'looks' and styles as the litmus test of what is right or wrong.

Obviously God was warning and punishing the man with his hair too long.

I agree. The topic of the thread is "what does nature teach us about hair?"

The only thing that I can relate nature to hair would be the idea that long hair on a woman indicates health/fertility.

being 4 years out from chemo, I revel in every inch of hair that is grown on my head. I rocked being bald though too. My Sister would always tell me that the way I carried myself with pride and dignity in spite of my lack of hair always brought admiring glances my way.
