It's not disbelieving what he said, but knowing what He meant. The two at Emmaus said the first day of the week when he arose was the THIRD DAY since he died. So three full days and three full nights cannot work. And that means the cultural explanation of any part of a day counting for the whole day must be the case. Jesus involved that culture when he said that. Our culture would not allow that, but we cannot read it through our cultural lenses But when we think it involves our cultural ideas and concepts we read it that way and get offtrack.

He repeatedly said ON the third day He's rise, too. How does that fit? It would have to be on the fourth day, not on the third to fit your idea.

Re: Timeline of Jesus' Death

The issue here is trying to reinvent the wheel when folks do not understand the culture of the middle east, and are making mistakes, when other folks already solved the problem who know more about the culture than most of us do, and correctly showed Friday through Sunday.

So many are trying to find fault with traditions when some are faultless! Some are correct! Even Catholics believe Jesus died on a cross! lol

Jesus also said "the third day". If you believe he meant 72hrs then you are saying he got it wrong on one or the other. So then, those who prefer 72 hrs really don't believe ALL he said...?

3 days & 3 nights = 72 hours.
Math is clear and every account backs it up.

But you are still not dealing with Jesus saying THE THIRD DAY he would rise.

Mat 17:23 KJV And they shall kill him, and the third day he shall be raised again. And they were exceeding sorry.

Mat 20:19 KJV And shall deliver him to the Gentiles to mock, and to scourge, and to crucify him: and the third day he shall rise again.

And the other scriptures:

Luk 24:21 KJV But we trusted that it had been he which should have redeemed Israel: and beside all this, to day is the third day since these things were done.

They did not say the FOURTH DAY.

He rose the third day at the ending of the day.

If he rose the 3rd day he didn't spend 72 hours in the grave...
