No. THE INTENTION is not to deceive at all. The intention is for the reader to KNOW it is an exagerration, and when the person KNOWS, then no lying is involved.
Have you ever said something like, "My headache is killing me"?

Man, why even have to explain this? A grade six student would know this! This is so ridiculous I cannot begin to describe it.

So Jesus was kidding?

I think you better find a different word than HYPERBOLE to describe what our Lord was saying.

Ahhhh. Good one.
Sean, Jesus said if your eye offend you, pluck it out. Have any eyes left? Anyone ever physically do that?
Suddenly Sean is quiet.
Sean, when someone says their headache is killing them, they are not lying just because they are not actually dying. They are using hyperbole, AND YOU USED IT TOO! You KNOW you said things like that. You never intended anyone to think you are actually dying and will have a funeral as the result of your headache. You KNEW the people would not think you were dying. THAT IS HYPERBOLE. It is saying something that you knwo nobody will take literally, but it drives home a point of how bad your headache is. That's all. It's not lying, no one is deceived by it, but it is a linguistic method of emphasizing your pain, the case of a headache..

Re: Replacement Theology Man Highlights
Sean, you should be careful implying Jesus is a liar.

That is how serious that Jesus is about hell. Having our offending body parts removed is the alternative to hell.
