It's a paraphrase, the MEV is a Translation of the TR into modern English

Re: New MEV bible based on KJV!!!!

The MEV is a translation of the Textus Receptus and the Jacob ben Hayyim edition of the Masoretic Text,
using the King James Version as the base manuscript.

The MEV is a literal translation. It is also often referred to as a formal correspondence translation.

The guy on the phone had told me they also had the large print version. They did not. I was disappointed because I thought it might be just what I needed.

But I noticed a large print personal size Holman NKJV with a leather touch cover. I know that Holman makes good Bibles so I picked it up and it felt good and looked good. The print was very nice much more readable to my eyes than the MEV.

It was tagged at$19. I thought what a deal this is! When I got to the register they rang it up at $14! I couldn't believe it! As far as bang for the buck this might be the best I have scored.
Was it this one (with a different cover)? http://biblebuyingguide.com/holman-n...-bible-review/

That's one of the best NKJV's in print imo. It's designed by 2K/Denmark. They designed the settings for most of the high-end premium Bibles and the journaling editions. They're my favorite designers.

No its just a 19.99 version. It has what they are calling a Leather Touch type cover. Yours looks like it has 5 small "ridges" on its cover mine has none.

But it could be the one you have may be what Im really looking for in a NJKV. Mine is great for the price. If they have this same style in a good quality cover for $60 Im in.

Re: New MEV bible based on KJV!!!!

I think I prefer the NKJV over the MEV for this main reason. Memorization. I like to have uniform scriptures for anyone in a group setting. In this generation many have switched over to the NKJV. The MEV may be very good I hope to get one someday, but for sharing in groups or in a fellowship sitting everyone should be on the same page.

Re: New MEV bible based on KJV!!!!

It has been many years since I was part of a church where everyone used the same translation.

Re: New MEV bible based on KJV!!!!

Which Bible translations are the product of church efforts, rather than for profit companies/publishers?

I doubt this, they err if making the claim. The Ben Hayim edition omitted Joshua 21:36-37 and has the "like a lion" Hebrew text in Psalm 22:16, instead of "pierced".

Also, the King James Bible is not a manuscript, it is a Bible (or a Bible edition) .. they may have used it for the textual base, which is likely what you meant.

It is frequently wrongly stated that the AV (Authorized Version) is translated from the Ben Hayim. That is the root of the difficulty.

The Living Bible was made for student ministry. Not sure about the others.

Re: New MEV bible based on KJV!!!!

OK I bought a copy of the MEV. Reason being as far as I know it is the only Bible in print beside the KJV and the NKJV that is based on the TR.

It is a Thinline version pretty small to contain both Testaments. Nice cover nice text layout. The disadvantage as I think was mentioned is the print is small. I sometimes have to squint with my glasses on to read it.

I dont regret buying it as its only $30. I read about 12 chapters last night enjoying something a wee bit different.
