The reason the accusation was written in three language was for the benefit of informing the whole population of the reason why he was crucified.
If Jesus was being executed today it would make no sense to write his accusation in Latin, for it is a dead language which only a few college professors know.

Re: Calling on the Name of Jesus (at baptism)
And that has what to do with why English speakers should use Yeshua instead of Jesus?

English translators have a responsibility to translate the text before them, which in the case of the NT is in Greek. There is no Hebrew manuscript speaking of Jesus of Nazareth using a Hebrew form of the name. So the right and honest thing to do is to translate IESOUS and other Greek names (like OSEE in Romans instead of Hoshea) into the target language.
|
I think thats why I said IDEALLY. The translators did nothing wrong by bringing the Greek to English. Its all they had.

If we want to accurately transliterate the preserved in Greek New Testament manuscripts name of our Savior, that is, Ἰησοῦς, into English, we could and perhaps should adopt Yay-sous, or something very similar. It serves much better orthographically and phonetically.
|
Sounds good brother we would be closer (English wise) than we are now. Many times in prayer I use Iesou. I leave the "s" off and enjoy it. Actually I use Iesou, Jesus and Yeshua in prayer. Of course Im sure someone will attack that also!

Yes, but WHY is that all they had? That's the real question...

In the LXX the name Joshua is Iesous which is Jesus. The same Latin name which was over His head on the Cross.
