In context, it seems somewhat true.

"The Constitution alone cannot guarantee some sort of political utopia. Man is fallen — a city on a shining hill cannot be guaranteed by a mere piece of paper. The fact that within a decade of the documents’ adoption the government was already trying to subvert it should be a clear indication of that reality.
The mainstream conservative movement has also abandoned any pretense of defending an existing moral order or social traditions, custom, convention, and continuity. It has caved on almost every radical social issue, from abortion to same-sex marriage, and implicitly supports a corporatist globalism that can be as destructive of traditional local customs as Communism.
Fundamentally, the mainstream conservative movement has forgotten that many of the political values it promotes are rooted in a culture it has failed to defend — and, in many cases, helped to erode."
Again, he's either purposefully or ignorantly lumping conservatives in with the establishment. Neither Shapiro or Cruz are establishment.

And the Constitution is more than a mere piece of paper, no matter what is written after.

Re: Trump 2016

nd - that is not what the author stated. He did not say "the Constitution is a mere piece of paper.
He stated "Man is fallen — a city on a shining hill cannot be guaranteed by a mere piece of paper."
The statement is correct.
We have seen the last 8 years that no matter what the Constitution says, it can be subverted by the executive, legislative and the judicial systems.
What the article somewhat implies is that without the underlying basis of English law, inspired in part by Christianity/the Bible, our Constitution does not work.
And, we are rapidly getting away from our basis for it.

Re: Trump 2016

Hilarious.

"""How funny is it that Coulter is promoting a book called "In Trump We Trust" on the same week Trump flipped on only issue she cares about?"""

Coulter on Hardball:
"""Coulter said Trump’s comments “sounded very consultant to me,” adding, “This could be the shortest book tour ever if he’s really softening his position on immigration.” Her latest book is entitled In Trump We Trust."""

Moral of the story, she shouldn't have sold her soul for a dumb book. I've never liked her shrill, ugly voice anyway. She's annoying and I'm happy to see her go down in flames.

Re: Trump 2016

Coulter used to stand for something, but like most people in the limelight, she let those lights blind her. Now, she just goes wherever the limelight is, regardless if it conflicts with conservatism. Some people manage to avoid being blinded by it, and stick to their conservative principles, but too many do not. Coulter did not.

Re: Trump 2016

Next, it will be:

"Make El Salvador Great Again Maybe."

"Make Venezuela Great Again As Well"

"Make Guatamala Great Again Eventually"

Seriously? Make Mexico great again also? What happened to all that "America First" mantra the GOP Nominee was spouting?
