I agree. I don't know if you have listened to Brother Riggen's message, but he does seem to be attempting to invoke fear. It may even rise to the level of extortion.
You cannot be saved if you don't tithe.

So in trouble if you do it and in trouble if you don't, is that what you're saying?

If your fear is a reverent fear, I believe God honors it. If your fear is some sort of fire insurance, then your actions are vain. God didn't give us a spirit of fear. He gave us a spirit of power, love and self discipline. Tithing is a discipline-- one of the many disciplines in a Christian life that God honors when we are motivated by love.

Matthew (is it chapter twenty five?) tells us what giving to Jesus looks like.
Would you agree that there is cheerful giving versus fearful giving?
I think I know the answer.

I just know churches for years who tithed, lived good lives, had great preachers. No one told them they were going to hell or heaven concerning tithing. They all gave according to 2 Corinthians 9:6-7. Most of these brothers never even thought about a percent, or a half shekel, they gave as much as they could. I have met saints who didn't even know a tithe meant 10%. Do you know what that means? Bro, do you know what that means?

He's was MISTAKEN!
I shouldn't call him a liar-- not very wise of me at all.

Re: Do we have to pay tithes?
Like most threads on AFF these days, this is much ado about nothing.
Whether you believe in paying a tithe or a tithe and offering or whatever.
Does anyone really believe that if a believer never gives one dime to the church, they will be saved?
For where your treasure is there will your heart be also.
As I said before, in the OT you had to pay your tithe and also the various offerings.
If you did that you were clean in the eyes of the law.
Now, if you see your brother in need and do not help, than it does not matter how much tithes you have paid.

Acts 21:17 - 25
17 When we arrived at Jerusalem, the brothers and sisters received us warmly.
18 The next day Paul and the rest of us went to see James, and all the elders were present.
19 Paul greeted them and reported in detail what God had done among the Gentiles through his ministry.
20 When they heard this, they praised God. Then they said to Paul: “You see, brother, how many thousands of Jews have believed, and all of them are zealous for the law.
21 They have been informed that you teach all the Jews who live among the Gentiles to turn away from Moses, telling them not to circumcise their children or live according to our customs.
22 What shall we do? They will certainly hear that you have come, 23so do what we tell you. There are four men with us who have made a vow.
24 Take these men, join in their purification rites and pay their expenses, so that they can have their heads shaved. Then everyone will know there is no truth in these reports about you, but that you yourself are living in obedience to the law.
25 As for the Gentile believers, we have written to them our decision that they should abstain from food sacrificed to idols, from blood, from the meat of strangled animals and from sexual immorality.”
^^^ These are the commands that the early church fathers passed down to the Gentiles. Tithing is not mentioned. Ever notice how Paul speaks of taking up offerings for other Christian believers around the world? Why did he not ever mention tithing?

Re: Do we have to pay tithes?
Most Christian ministries, in America and abroad, will simply cease to minister if tithing was stopped. I have never heard anyone preach a hell-fire message about tithing. Giving is a discipline and God uses our gifts to further His Kingdom. The cheerful giver is blessed. It is better to give than it is to receive. One's attitude towards giving could send someone to hell, but not tithing in and of itself won't do it.

Catholics and Eastern Orthodox Christians don't have a tithe system. They are the largest portion of the Christian pie.

Yes, it is our attitude on a lot of things which would cause us to miss out on GOD.
