This question reminds me of what my late father said when he was told
he HAD to to take up a weapon. He had signed up, after being drafted in
the mid-1940's, as a non-combant in the Army. He was trained as a medic
and went overseas. There they issued the weapons and told him he had to
carry a weapon because they left all those ------ -------, back in the
United States. He told them the Constitution of the United States gave him
the right, as an American to not bear arms. He would do what his
conscience would allow him. They told him, "Go on and get your weapon",
He picked up his medical bags and with that one of the officers yelled,
"Wouldn't we be in a h--- of a mess if everyone thought like you"? Dad
replied "No, Sir, if everyone thought like me, there would be no war". He
came back after the war and I learned by example that just because some-
one said you HAD to do something, didn't make it necessarily so. It would
be interesting to know just how many young men in their twenties, with a
wife and four very young children, would stand up under pressure to those
who would insist they do something against their conscience. There are
those who would insist that those who would not carry a weapon were
cowards. No friend, to me the heros are the ones who will stand in the
face of opposition and declare, "There are just some things I am not will-
ing to violate and that is MY conscience". I am SO proud of my late father
as I saw him stand and show his children how to stand for righteousness.
Then it was left up to us what we would do with OUR conscience. There
is a difference in having a conscience for pleasing God and having our own
will and way. There really is a BIG difference!
Happy Independance Day to all! Thank God for the liberty we can have in
God and in the freedoms we have as Americans. Someone who went before
us paid for ours. Our inheritance is what we receive. Our legecy is what we
will pass on to our children and grandchildren, etc.
J.W. Harv, I would hope that if everyone in the church we attend thought
or was like me, we'd have CHURCH!

Blessings,
