piano,

Do you really think that most of the churches within the UPCI can even afford the camera, much less any airtime??

Honestly, The initial resolution, if I am correct, sought to take out the tv ban completely. This is the ultimate aim of the pro-tv supporters. When it did not pass, they can back with a "less intrusive" resolution, but the wording left it too open still. Now we going to see a resolution that only allows for advertisement. But my question is, if the initial push was for removal, have they given up on it, or are they just working that way, easing it in a little at a time.

IS Christ Church on TV??

This resolution is not for churches who can't afford to be on TV anyways! It is to allow the churches that have the budget and the burden to do so.

Christ Church videotapes all of their services. I believe they are streamed on the internet. Thus far, they have not had a regular TV program.

They did make a 30 minute infomercial about the church which ran a few times late at night.

I have never told anyone this before, but I joined the military because of an ad I saw on television. I was bombing out of college my freshman year because I had never had to study before, did not know how to, and was overwhelmed. I had stopped going to class and was sitting in the dorm room one day trying to figure out what I was going to do with my life. A commercial that I had ignored multiple times before came on, just when I needed it most... when I was sitting there, alone in my room wondering what to do. I ended up going to see a recruiter a few days later and scored 97 on my ASVAB. I believe that started a positive course in my life.

I do not understand why people refuse to allow television to do the same thing for someone else that it did for me. What if that had been a UPC commercial? Maybe I would be a big evangelist by now?

Lost folks watch TV! The UPCI is trying to reach the lost! I just can't see what all the fuss is about!

I think a big part of the fuss is that the resolution(s) is(are) too vague and open for wide latitude of interpretation. In my opinion, if the resolution were specific in scope and had clearly defined rules that govern the advertising or programing. With Ministerial ethics being in decline in the view of many, there is grave concern that the big fish will swallow up the small fish and we will end up with bloated congregations that are not being served effectively resulting orphaned babies.

That, I think, is what all the fuss is about!

If you're saying that the big fish would be swalling up the small fish, aren't you saying that TV advertising would work? Are you saying that the larger churches with a budget to advertise on TV would attract more people?

The resolution clearly states that a licensed preacher can't have a TV in their home. That's pretty specific!

Just wanted to confirm that I have heard this also. Part of the fear is that large congregations will take from smaller congregations with no "lost" actually being saved.
