I find our choices quite humorous coming from Ca,

if the survey was for this state only it would have read:

299,000 or under

300,000 - 399,000

400,000- 499,000

500,000-599,000

600,000 or over


The market here is certainly in a crisis , but the prices are still high.

We probably got the best deal of anyone here on our house. Of course, we've lived in it for 22 years now. And we bought it at a steal when we got it. We originally paid $42,000 for it. You couldn't come anywhere near it for that today. Even the garage is worth that much!!

The scary thing is that even tho our investment has paid off this well so far, we are not ready to sell and move. And so what happens if the bottom falls out of the housing market? Geesh! We could end up right back where we started!!!

Renda's right. You can't take it with you. So, oh well!

We paid about 150,000 for our almost 2700 sq ft house here. That was in 2000. A visiting Californian told us we couldn't touch one just like it in CA for less than three million.......maybe more!

In the area we're looking the magic number for a really nice house with a lot at least 10,000--12,000 square feet is 400,000+. That IS expensive but a good 100G's less then it was a year ago!
It will probably come down a bit more between now and Christmas.... the key being that most homes in the 400's are feeling fierce pressure to hit the magic 417,000 mark.

Here in North Central Louisiana....

We have a 4 bedroom 2 bath 2400 sq ft home that is nearly 100 (Built in 1916) years old. Hardwood floors throughout & 10-1/2 ceilings in all but the kitchen & one hallway. There is a 17x21' back room that was a work room. We are converting to the master bed & bath. It will then be a 5 bedroom 3 bath according to our current layout. It could be a 4 bedroom 3 bath with a den & living room. Covered concrete porch on the front of the house. There are 7 doors that go outside. I told the kids that the fire drill is this... GO OUTSIDE!. It has a huge attic... if we ever put a staircase to the attic we could very nearly double the size of the house by putting rooms up there.

We are one block off of both of the major roads through town on a corner lot with a fenced in 1-1/2 acre yard.

All for $65,000.

It's similar where we are...only way you can get a decent house that doesn't need everything replaced...is to pay $300,000 or more.

I simply love older houses! We've fixed up a couple of them in the past.
