Have you said "Yes"?

I was thinking how easy it can be to say "yes" to a request from God or a challenge as Peter did...when he said he would never leave the Lord. But we saw that he failed...

Then I realized just how HARD it is to say "Yes" to the Lord, even before I knew what He might ask of me, being totally honest with myself. I think it's far easier to say "yes" before we really think about it, but far harder to say yes when we do think about it.

It's easier to want to keep our options open, in case God asks something that we feel is to hard or we don't want to do and we can back out.

Have you really said "Yes" to the Lord in all honesty not really knowing what He might ask of you or where he might send you?

Apostolic is defined on AFF as:

  1. There is One God. This one God reveals Himself distinctly as Father, Son and Holy Ghost.
  2. The Son is God himself in a human form or "God manifested in the flesh" (1Tim 3:16)
  3. Every sinner must repent of their sins.
  4. That Jesus name baptism is the only biblical mode of water baptism.
  5. That the Holy Ghost is for today and is received by faith with the initial evidence of speaking in tongues.
  6. The saint will go on to strive to live a holy life, pleasing to God.

I am pretty careful with that "yes" word. Doesn't the Bible talk about weighing the cost?

When it comes to serving God?

Yes. Aren't we cautioned to weigh the cost before telling God we will do something? I don't have my Bible program open, but I remember something about it being better to never have made the promise than to make the promise and then not follow through.

Ok...let me put it another way then :-)

When or if God asks you to do something or go somewhere do you "think" you might say yes? Or is it possible you might tell God "No way Jose"?

Well, I am not one of those people who think God will strike me dead if I tell Him, "No", so it is entirely possible that I would decline an offer from Him. You realize, of course, that I am a nutcase and don't know what I am talking about half the time.

Seriously, I think we have the option of telling God, "No", without putting ourselves in danger of hellfire. We need to examine what is being asked of us and whether or not we will be as committed as it takes to get it done, BEFORE agreeing to do it.

I learned that lesson when I agreed to go into prison ministry. It turned out I wasn't as committed to it as I should have been and found myself having to explain to God why everything fell apart. God still wants me to preach in prisons, but I am better prepared to give Him a "yes" now than I was back then.
