Honestly, stories like these have been propigated for years about people (like us) who left UPC. I'm not sure any of them are true. But IF they are, then it's shameful and anyone who would do something like this is just plain unwise and full of pride.

What is so celebratory about it other than possibly just a "wrong" spirit...

It just doesn't seem to be something to celebrate???

in other words I don't get it...
That is just bad , bad, bad. I cut my hair but if I saw something like that I would RUN!!!!!!

I dealt with this very kind of thing in another thread a few weeks back. Saddens my heart to hear of it again and, yes, I've known of it actually being done in the past.

Sad day... for my opinion CLICK HERE.

Lost made reference to that particular scripture and asked the number of congregants who participated in the hair cutting party to imply that hell had enlarged itself for those in attendance.

After reading your admission to being a simple man made clear why you thought Rhoni's comment on another thread was funny. A little less sarcasm and the ability to listen and understand before commenting would lead to more wisdom, IMO brother.

The problem with "IN YOUR FACE" liberty is that it lacks LOVE.

If I truly have LOVE for my Brothers and sisters, I will not flaunt my liberty to them if it would cause them to stumble.

Actually the actions of "IN YOUR FACE" liberty might even be considered prideful.

I would say it probably has to do with making sure everyone realizes that they are free to choose to do what they want...

That and it eliminates any "underground" pressure not to do it... It makes sure people are free to make thier own decision and won't have any outside pressure because all the women will do the majority of the cutting together if they choose to get it cut...

(note: this is to try and understand why someone would do this... I'm not necessarily saying that this is why it happened... Only trying to make sure this isn't "THIS IS SO HORRIBLE" constantly... We should try to understand where they are coming from and why they would do it before we condemn them/it)

RevDDW,

The term you used is quite interesting. I agree with you.

Here is my take on it;
"IN YOUR FACE" liberty is just as bad as COMPETITIVE holiness found on the other extreme.
