randy,
we had a neighboring church that left UPC when the affirmation passed back in the 90s.
His wife's hair went to her ankles. He called her up and sat her in a chair and cut her hair off all the while speaking in tongues and crying and shouting. the whole church cheered
I was told that this was a sign to the rest of the body that they were now free from bondage?? or something like that. like a right of passage for the church.

Okay, after typing out a short treatise where I basically declared you to be insane I took another look at your avatar/dog. And while my writings were good enough to submit for publication in a learned journal of theology - I had to delete the whole thing and laugh at myself.
Make the world a better place; get the pooch some extensions.

I'm not doubting you Thad, but we're you there? Is there some kind of documentable evidence that a person like me could be given to go forward with?
These people really set up a chair and performed a barbershop-like spectacle on the platform of their church?

It should never be cut or shorn in any manner (i.e. over perming, yanking it out by the roots, or breaking it off by hand so one can have wispy curls around one's face, or using an emery board to "saw" through and shorten a few strands here & there, burning off strategic strands, etc.). It should never be colored or highlighted even if the hair has gone prematurely grey. It should never be "trimmed" because it's all the same - trimming, shearing, shaving, cutting, chopping, snipping, razoring. A woman's hair is her glory.

Dora - How did you come to this conclusion? I am not on here a whole lot anymore so I have not read a lot of your post - is this for real or a joke? DId you cut and paste this from somebody's book or blog? I cannot understand how on earth you could come to this conclusion after reading the Bible!

AB,
Dora is NOT the source... this is from the much reviled "Power Before The Throne" book by RR?. She is posting with tongue firmly planted in her Apostolic Pentecostal Cheek!

Sorry - The "liberated pastor" and his reported actions. That is totally absurd.
For his defense I would have to say - that when you leave the UPC or any hierarchal controlled legalistic group like it - you are mud and your actions are greatly exaggerated.

Thad...sorry to doubt your story here but this same thing has been said about us with really believable details...but it never happened.
If SE says that his friends spoke to the pastor in his "story" and confirmed it...then ok, some people are destined to do stupid things...but I know of mine plus 5 other occurances of this lie where it is reported widely to have happened but IT DID NOT HAPPEN...so.......
Who said this to you personally that it happened...did you personally speak to the pastor in question?
