I'm not a UPC loyalist, but I can tell you why people would want their church to stay in the UPC, because I'm going through this myself.

If you have any sort of ambition in missions, as I do, you definitely want to stay in the organization that has the major missions efforts. It's a lot harder (if not near impossible) to get involved as an AIMer and certainly as a full-time missionary if you don't have a license.

because i know a minister's son who said his dad received word and was invited to attend. it was a closed saints meeting with branch pastors and some guest preachers who are in on this whole idea of forming the new group. Believe me it is the talk of CA right now - I just cannot tell EXACTLY what went down- been busy but I'm sure we will all find out soon

To answer the Question about saints leaving, I just spoke to a saint from another church in CA. whose pastor may be leaving and they told me that if he leaves they are going to find another church.

The reason is, in their words, they feel a sense of safety being the UPC.
believe it or not, there is a sense that if a pastor messed up, the so called "Elders" in his life would tend to cover things up. i know it's happend in the UPC but some feel like it's less likely and there is more of a chain of commnad to turn to in crisis

I have now, but still do not see facts...

I'm reading of different views of the same service, and to top it off, I'm waiting for a call-back from my source...so then we'll have her perception.

Most larger Churches aren't...

.
Check your directory.... I'm pretty sure there is an * by the name of my church. Not that I believe that is necessarily a good thing - but I'm pretty sure it is there - which would mean that it IS affiliated.

As to the number of my "sources".... well, in this particular instance that would be a total of ....................... one.

I was just commenting on the different perspective of people who may or may not have attended the same service / meeting. It's like when someone sees a crime / accident. Three witnesses may have three different descriptions of the perpetrator or accident. In no way did I mean to dispute what your "source" told you. I wasn't there - so I don't really know exactly what he said - or didn't say.

Right, which is why they have to vote to disaffiate.
