No they weren't..........but, I remember in the "preaching" competition (That sounds pretty funny in and of itself) one of their good young Baptist boys preached circles around our guys.

You needed to humble yourself and obey the rules of the bible college. I attended TBC and I can tell you that I didn't particle like or agree with all the rule but I obeyed them.

Kutless does bring up a problem that is very prevalent among OPs' and in particular at the Bible Colleges.

Whole Hearted you say he didn't "follow the rules..." Was there really a rule that stated he could not have a hair cut in the fashion of WT Witherspoon? I doubt that. In stead someone who either had authority or had simply assumed authority went to Kutless's "girlfriend" and told her to tell Kutless that the "Witherspoon" look is now out and he could not participate in the ensemble thing.

Most of the "rules" that are brought up in these scenarios are not written down but represent someone's knee jerk reaction. It's very unfair to expect eveyone to somehow anticipate whatever new rule might be invented on the fly. The only way to really get a group of people to automatically clone themselves to your whimisical standards is to inculcate an atmosphere of intimidation, bullying and fear.

Kutless's experience reminds me of my Bible School experience. The only "rules" I ever had a problem with were the often contradictory ones that were introduced anew every couple of weeks. One guy goes out and gets a dressy leather jacket- oops, there's now a rule against wearing leather jackets of any kind on campus. A couple of guys get skinny ties like Stanley Chambers wore in the 50's - oops, no skinny ties. The list goes on.

There's something terribly wrong with an environment where you have to guess what is going to offend some pea brain. To resist that culture is NOT rebellion! It's really a form of true holiness. A very practical application of holiness and a demonstration of godliness on the part of the guys with the skinny ties or the "Witherspoon" haitcuts. It's the innovators- those who feel their whimsical "rules" need to be enforced who are in rebellion against God and against holiness.

I played the piano for a girl from our school for the girls solo competition for ACE in Indiana. We had picked the song, "Ordinary People", and one of the Baptist judges disqualified her (and she had the best vocals there!) because she was singing a worldly jazz style song!!!!!!!

Steve Munsey's church school was there and the students and staff all gave her a standing ovation when she finished. I think the judge didn't want a Pentecostal girl to win!

Man, it seems like something like that happened at our competition, but I can't remember the details........

It's the UNWRITTEN rules that kill ya!

We are governed by those who are the most easily offended. According to the Scripture, it's the ones who are most easily offended who are the "weakest" in faith.

So, my question is, why are we allowing ourselves to be governed by the weakest among us? Shouldn't we find some brothers and sisters who are strong in faith and follow their example?

Oh, I get it... that means there would be no one for us to follow to Tulsa come January. The weakest and most easily offended are leading that charge.

My friend, THAT is one of the most powerful statements I've read! You have summed it all up in a nutshell!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have heard it preached, and even preached it myself, that we are not to offend the weaker brother...............but, at what point in time should the weaker brother become stronger and begin fulfilling the scripture that says the Holy Ghost is not easily offended, and great peace have they which love the law and NOTHING shall offend them?
