I have not read this entire thread and it has grown so rapidly I probably won't be able to for awhile.
I am a believer of the Acts 2:38 and the Ten Commandments and the Sermon on the Mount and the Royal law.(all of the Bible) I believe if you obey all of this you just might make it.

In fact I think that the insinuation of "hateful" Pentecostals is coming mostly from the fertile imaginations of bitter, backslidden ex Apostolics who are constantly trying to find a way to justify their actions. ~ strait shooter
In walking through the nieghborhood(forum) I see alot of disturbing traits. I am a firm believer that there is nothing complex about life, physical or spiritual. Most often it is us who make things more difficult than they have to be or should be. But I find that if we dig to the heart of the matter it will be as simple as black and white. "Grey" areas are places where we try to smudge the black line a little and thus make things complex not only for ourselves but those we interact with.
There are two verses of scripture that rule my life. The first one is :
Matthew 6:33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.
Sometimes that dreadful thing comes prying it's way to the surface when discussing beliefs vs scripture. That thing being pride. Which rides the same donkey as arrogance. I have seen points trying to be proved by taking two or three words out of a sentence. Using that same formula I could turn the Bible into a fairy tale, make a movie and sell tickets for millions. I don't seem to remember the parables in which Jesus taught being so complex at getting the point across. Most are childrens stories now. Why would the entirity of the Word of God be any different? Sure God tells us there are things we can not understand, so what makes these men of pride think they can accomplish what God has already said can not be. I get almost frightened when I hear those words " what this means is". (shudder) Saints, it means what it says and says what it means. I refuse to believe a God who "wants" us to come to salvation would make it as difficult as some break it down to be. The Word says the Spirit will open the scriptures to the heart and make them to be understood.
"Seek ye first the Kingdom of God and His rightousness, and these things will be added unto you"
Understanding the road to salvation comes from God , not man. Yes He will guide your speech when witnessing, but I witness just enough to get them to church and no more. "Be ye fishers of men, you catchem, God will clean them." I would not want to teach or preach a message to a lost soul that God was never ready for that soul to recieve. I wonder how many people we have had "hooked" after 5 or 10 minutes of God felt witnessing that walked away because it turned in to "I'm right, your wrong" preaching.
"Seek ye first the Kingdom of God".
Jesus told the disiples to cast their nets on the other side of the boat. Think they would have caught any thing had they continued to fish their way? I see post and counter post that pop up within minutes of each other. If the poster gathered his/her scripture of rebuttle to be posted in response and then STOPPED!!!! and prayed over it for an hour I wonder if the post would be any different? God caused men to prophesy, heal, part waters, etc. Why does it seem like some think that God can't cause a person to understand His will? If we would accept that, would there even be a need for "debate"? To me if someone believes differently than me to the point they are willing argue about it then my response to them is simple.
"Seek ye first the Kingdom of God"
I assure you I will

One is either obedient to the teachings of Jesus or they are not. If they have faith in Jesus they will repent of their sins. If they repent of their sins they will want to obey and be baptized. If their Christian desire is genuine they will want to be filled with the Holy Ghost. There's no way around it. If one says they have faith in Jesus but doesn't want to repent of sin...that isn't saving faith. If one says they have repented of sin and desire to live an obedient Christian life and yet they refuse to be baptized in Jesus name...that isn't repentance unto salvation. If they don't desire to be filled with the Holy Ghost...can they be said to have true Christian desire?
Faith without works is....dead.
Faith without repentance is dead.
Faith without obeying the command to be baptized is dead.
Faith without wanting the Holy Ghost is dead.
Dead religion. Outside of Acts 2:38 all one has is faith without works. The three-steppers contend that we should show our faith by our works...for without our works our faith is dead.
Down through history there have been outbreaks and revivals of this truth in various times and places throughout Christendom. And the Trinitarian church has waged all out war against it. One God Christians have been burned at the stake for refusing to believe in the Trinity or the triune baptismal formula. This isn't the time to back off the message....this is a time to get with the message.
Muslims love their Allah enough to fly planes into buildings and blow themselves up....yet we water down the original teachings of our Lord Jesus and the Apostles he called. Would it be fair to say that the Apostolics we're seeing here don't love the full application of the gospel as much as Muslims love Islam?
Shake yourselves and awaken from your slumber my brethren. This is no time to retreat into the "average" Christian faith and practice of traditional Christian religion. This is a time to stand up and be counted...to prepare for war. To storm the very gates of Hell.
The idea that Acts 2:38 isn't essential is a lie from Hell and smells like smoke.
Chris, interesting points. The portion I highlighted above I would like to address. My father and I were talking a few days ago. He told me the account about the first time he heard the verses of Acts 2:38-39 preached. My father was raised baptist and then went to a Methodists church. Because of what he was taught at the baptist church this is how he took Acts 2:38-39. He saw the REPENT part and said-we do that now, BE BAPTIZED-we do that-(it did not hit him about the Jesus name part to much later), and receive the HG-the church taught once you accepted Jesus then His spirit was in you, so he thought we do that now. My point is that there are many that hear what Acts 2:38 says and they take it according to their understanding. I know many on here that are considered 1-steppers see it similarly. I know I do. There are many verses in the Bible that talk about believing and being baptized and then you are saved.
Yes faith without works is dead, but works does not mean it is salvational, IMO.

So do you consider baptism to be simply a "work" in the same sense that the NT writers meant when they generally referred to "works" ?
