When I was saved I called upon the name of the Lord, repented of my sin and was filled with the Holy Ghost...all before water baptism. If sins are only forgiven (remitted) at water baptism...how did I get the Holy Ghost prior to being water baptized?
NOBODY, namely any 3 steppers (and I was raised a 3 stepper), has ever answered this question.
Acts 2:38 isn't the gospel. The gospel is the death, burial, and ressurction of Jesus Christ, his blood providing a new and better covenant. Acts 2:38 is how an obedient Christian biblically applies the gospel to their lives.
Peter opened by stating that whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be....saved. Then he admonishes them to repent (and be water baptized) for the remission of sins and receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.
Yes we must preach and teach that Christians are to obey and therefore are to be water baptized in Jesus name and filled with the Holy Ghost...but let's not forget what Peter said at the opening of his sermon. You see, Peter admonished them to repent of sin and take upon them the symbolism of burial through baptism, and then they were to receive the Holy Ghost; because taking part in these things were part of their promise. However, when speaking of being "saved" Peter based it on "calling upon the name of the Lord."
well, now I am confused. are you saying that Peter told them to yell "JESUS" really loud and they would be saved? Are you suggesting that "calling in the name" is even seperate and different from repentance?
Aquila, you have split a very fine hair here. I believe every word of God. We have to have the whole text to understand what Peter was saying!
Calling on the Name of the Lord saves
Believing Saves
Repenting Saves
Believing and being Baptized Saves
Water Saves.
The bible says all of these things, you cannot pick one to the exclusion of the others!
Just preach Jesus and him crucified and when men are pricked in their hearts and ask what they need to do, TELL THEM.

I primarily just want to know the answer to one question...if sins are forgiven at the point of water baptism...how did I and so many others receive the Holy Ghost before being water baptized?
It appears to me that three stepper Apostolics (and I am oneof them) have become professionals at minimizing the all inclusive power of the blood of Jesus as evidenced in this discussion. Acts, without the Gospel is bloodless.
The blood of Christ washes away our sins when we are baptized in Jesus name. There is no minimization going on but a spiritual circumcision, a removal of the body of sin by the blood of Jesus.

I’d like to teach a 3 step salvation…but God keeps getting ahead of me and filling people with the Holy Ghost as soon as they repent! lol
Again, this has been dealt with nine ways from sunday but great!
Aquila, what I think is most significant for us to remember is, I preach Jesus and him crucified, and you are seeing folks filled with the HG and are baptizing them in the name of Jesus. At the end of the day, we find achieve the same thing. THAT is the most important part.

And my question to you would be how can the Spirit remain in someone who sins after they have received the Holy Ghost according to your reasoning?

Therefore, according to your interpretation of Acts and the Epistles, one cannot expect to have their sins forgiven and cast into the sea of forgetfulness until one is water baptized??? Is that what you are saying? If so, I disagree with your interpretation of Acts and the Epistles.
